Xbox Game Pass Announces Replacement for Its Biggest Fighting Game

Xbox Game Pass is successful because Microsoft offers a wide variety of games to appeal to all players. The service consistently provides high-quality titles across many genres, ensuring there’s always something new to play. Like many subscription services, Game Pass regularly updates its library, adding and removing games. While this sometimes creates gaps in certain genres, Microsoft has gotten better at maintaining a diverse selection. This week brings a significant update to the fighting game selection on Game Pass, further demonstrating this commitment.

Game Pass subscribers have a new game to look forward to in December: Mortal Kombat 1 will be available starting December 10th. This comes as Mortal Kombat 11 leaves the Game Pass library on December 15th, so fans can seamlessly transition to the newest installment.

While some fans of Mortal Kombat might be disappointed by the amount of in-game purchases in Mortal Kombat 1, both games have been commercially successful and offer enjoyable single-player campaigns. If you avoid the more aggressive spending opportunities, Mortal Kombat 1 is a strong fighting game. New features like Kameo Fighters add depth to the combat, and cross-play and cross-progression let you play with friends on different platforms and continue your progress anywhere. However, the Invasions mode isn’t worth your time.

Both Mortal Kombat fans and Game Pass subscribers can rest easy knowing they’ll still have access to the fighting game they enjoy. Microsoft is making a smart move by continuing the Mortal Kombat series, allowing story-focused players to experience a new installment and dedicated fighting game fans to stick with a familiar title. Plus, Game Pass is getting even more games added to its library.
