Okay, so Xbox Game Pass keeps getting tons of awesome new games and old favorites, which is great. But honestly, things have been a little weird lately. They recently lowered the price after a big, and not very popular, price increase a while back. Now, a lot of us are starting to wonder if Microsoft’s strategy with Game Pass isn’t working as well as they hoped.
There were rumors that Xbox Game Pass might stop including big, popular games like Call of Duty. However, according to Jez Corden at Windows Central, the service is actually planning some larger changes that could be really good news for gamers.
Xbox Game Pass Could Go A La Carte
So, apparently big games like Call of Duty are costing Microsoft a ton of money with Game Pass – that’s why they raised the price last year. According to Jez Corden, Microsoft wants to eventually let us customize our Game Pass plans. Basically, they’re aiming for a “pick your own plan” system so we can choose what we want and maybe save some money. Sounds pretty cool if they can pull it off!
Recent changes suggest Game Pass subscriptions decreased after the initial excitement for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 faded, potentially leading to Call of Duty being removed from the service. The new strategy appears to move away from depending only on big-name releases, instead offering players more choices and customizable subscription packages to get the value they want.
Microsoft is considering different options for its Xbox Game Pass subscriptions. These could include removing some perks like cloud gaming or the Fortnite Crew pack to offer lower prices. Alternatively, they might replace those perks with access to new Xbox games on day one, or subscriptions to services like World of Warcraft or Minecraft Realms. Rumors also suggest even more benefits could be added, such as Netflix access or the highly anticipated Xbox Game Pass Family Plan.
Lots Of Changes Are Happening At Xbox
For a while, people have been talking about a possible Netflix and Game Pass bundle. But the new plan, where you pick and choose what you want, is a first for Xbox Game Pass. This is a significant change, even beyond just different price options, and could be one of the biggest updates to the service that doesn’t involve how much it costs.
Although it’s not certain if these changes will happen, recent discoveries suggest they might. Corden noticed internal codenames like “Duet” and “Triton” within the Game Pass API, hinting that Microsoft is preparing a new version of Xbox Game Pass. This could be the solution Microsoft has been working on to respond to concerns about pricing and value.
Although there’s been some uncertainty about the future of Xbox Game Pass, the idea of customizable plans seems like a great solution. Instead of hoping the next set of games includes something you’ll enjoy, a personalized subscription would let you choose exactly what you want, addressing many of the current criticisms of the service. This new proposal could be a significant improvement.
