Starting from now, users who are enrolled in the Xbox Insider Program, and subscribe to either Xbox Game Pass Core or Standard, will have an opportunity to stream certain games via Xbox Cloud Gaming, and where applicable, access PC versions of these titles. This was not previously accessible for console users on these tiers.
In a recent announcement through Xbox Wire, this update is good news for Xbox Game Pass subscribers who don’t hold the highest tier, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Previously, both Cloud gaming and (additional) access to PC games were exclusive benefits of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
The updated access to Cloud gaming on these two tiers includes not only Game Pass titles but also games from the “Stream Your Own Game” library, which has grown significantly over the past few months.
Cloud Gaming is compatible with a variety of devices, including Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles, certain Smart TVs, Meta Quest 3 headsets, and web browsers via Xbox.com/play.
For those who are not yet part of the program, you can register to join the Xbox Insider Program, where you can help test new and upcoming features and provide feedback before they’re released on Xbox consoles and the Xbox PC app.
Xbox Game Pass breakdown, as it stands
Up until the recent update for Xbox Insiders, the tiers of Xbox Game Pass were as follows:
1. The Xbox Game Pass Core, priced at $10 per month in the U.S., offers online multiplayer and a limited selection of console games.
2. For $15 a month, Xbox Game Pass Standard provides a vast collection of games but lacks online multiplayer.
3. PC Game Pass, specifically designed for PC players, boasts a large library of PC games including day-one first-party releases and an EA Play subscription at a cost of $12 per month.
4. The premium offering, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, includes day-one access to first-party games, Xbox Cloud Gaming, EA Play subscription, and a vast library for both console and PC at the price point of $20 per month.
The key selling points of these subscriptions are early access to first-party games, with titles like Keeper, Ninja Gaiden 4, and The Outer Worlds 2 being playable on their launch in October for subscribers.
Another significant advantage was that to enjoy gaming across console, PC, and Cloud, one had to subscribe to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate – however, this option is now expanded due to the latest update.

As an analyst, I’m excited to share that the ongoing feature expansion is currently exclusive to Xbox Insiders, but it promises to significantly enhance the gaming experience for all Core and Standard users of Xbox Game Pass in the future.
This update could potentially boost the appeal of the ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally devices, as they run PC versions of games, making access to these titles crucial for optimal utilization.
For gamers who purchase their games, Xbox Play Anywhere is undoubtedly the key selling point. However, for Game Pass subscribers not on the Ultimate or PC tiers, this new feature could be a compelling addition to their gaming arsenal.
The launch dates for the Xbox Ally devices are set for October 16, 2025. Although pricing details aren’t available yet, rumors suggest that the premium and standard models will retail at $899 and $599 respectively.
I eagerly anticipate whether this latest feature will have transitioned out of testing and be widely available by the time these devices hit the market.
