As a huge Xbox fan, I really loved the “This is an Xbox” campaign Microsoft did with the Series X/S. It was all about how you can play Xbox games anywhere now! With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you’re not just limited to the console – you can stream games to your phone, certain smart TVs, and even still play on an older Xbox One. It’s pretty amazing how far they’ve come with streaming!

The “This Is An Xbox” Slogan Is Dead

Okay, so I noticed something weird – Microsoft took down all the stuff on their site that said “This is an Xbox.” It happened right around the time they announced Asha Sharma as the new head of Xbox, taking over from Phil Spencer. It definitely got fans like me talking – makes you wonder what’s going on, right?

Microsoft explained the recent change in a statement, attributing it to a decision made by the new CEO. According to Microsoft, Asha, who previously used the phrase ‘This is an Xbox,’ retired it because it didn’t accurately represent the Xbox brand. She’s now spearheading an effort to redefine how the brand presents itself.

There was internal debate over Xbox’s recent “This is an Xbox” campaign, with some employees feeling the slogan was unclear. Xbox has faced challenges lately, and while changing the slogan isn’t a complete solution, it’s a positive first step towards a much-needed shift in direction.

Why “This Is An Xbox” Was a Bad Slogan

The slogan “This is an Xbox” is problematic because it focuses on gaming itself, rather than the Xbox console. Shifting so strongly towards cloud gaming was a risky decision, especially since the technology hasn’t become widely accepted – as seen with the failure of Google Stadia. Plus, cloud gaming still has drawbacks, making it less suitable for genres like fighting and first-person shooters.

The big question now is what Microsoft plans to release next. The Xbox Series X/S is getting older, and Microsoft has already started teasing its next console, currently known as Project Helix.

With many former Xbox exclusive games now available on other consoles and the cost of Xbox consoles and Game Pass increasing, it’s uncertain how Microsoft will market the Xbox Series X/S going forward. It’s possible Microsoft will decide to stop investing in the current Xbox and focus entirely on its new gaming platform, Project Helix.

Even if Xbox tries a new approach, it will need a really strong marketing campaign to compete with the PlayStation 6. The next Xbox could be very expensive due to increasing hardware costs, potentially making it unaffordable for many. Therefore, Xbox needs to regain the loyalty of its long-time fans.
