Xbox Project Helix price rumours cause stir online as fans question the new console’s cost

Gaming, like most things, is getting pricier, and the new Xbox Project Helix appears poised to contribute to that trend.

For the past year, many people have guessed that the Xbox console was nearing its end. However, the new Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma, just announced that a new Xbox console is currently in development.

Currently known as Project Helix, this new console is being created with AMD and is designed to be the most powerful gaming console available – unless the PlayStation 6 is released before it.

All that impressive capability will likely come with a high price tag, potentially making the next Xbox the priciest gaming console ever released.

According to tech insider Moore’s Law Is Dead, the upcoming Project Helix is estimated to cost between $900 and $1200, with a price of around $999 being the most probable.

Okay, so what’s happening is a bunch of things are adding up. The biggest one is the price of the new AMD graphics cards, but it’s not alone. RAM prices are going through the roof, and that’s already causing problems for stuff like the Steam Machine and Steam Deck – it’s making everything more expensive!

This is just a prediction, but given Moore’s Law Is Dead’s reliable history, it’s a perspective worth considering.

People are reacting strongly to the potential price, with many complaining about spending around $1,000 on a new console – almost twice the price of the existing Xbox Series X.

A user on X, @TheEggman64, expressed concern about the recent price increase, wondering if it will make the Xbox console unaffordable for many casual gamers.

I’m concerned that the Xbox Helix, priced at $1,000, might not be a good value. While it could attract some people interested in a PC-like gaming experience, it risks losing twice as many regular gamers who might instead choose a Switch 2 or PlayStation 6.

“Most gamers just play Fortnite, CoD, GTA, FIFA; Helix won’t be a good option for those.”

Xbox’s recent move is surprising, especially considering they’ve focused on attracting a wider, more casual audience with the affordable and less powerful Xbox Series S.

With gamers increasingly looking for cheaper console options and many dedicated players already owning gaming PCs – plus competition from devices like the Steam Machine – Xbox faces a significant risk if its Project Helix doesn’t succeed. It feels like a lot is riding on it.
