Xbox is planning a sequel to one of its 2024 games, despite it not being very well-received when it first launched. Xbox Game Studios has been steadily improving the quality of its games in recent years, and 2024 promises several exciting releases, including Fable, Forza Horizon 6, Halo: Campaign Evolved, and Gears of War: E-Day, with potentially more to come. While the lineup is getting stronger, not every Xbox game is a success, and some haven’t lived up to expectations. Now, it appears one of those less successful games is surprisingly getting a second chance.
During the recent Xbox Two Podcast, reporter Jez Corden revealed that Ninja Theory, the developers behind the Hellblade series, are now working on a new installment. Corden stated that their previously announced game, Project: Mara, has been cancelled in favor of continuing the Hellblade saga. While details are limited, Corden expects this new game to be more focused on interactive gameplay than its predecessors. He also mentioned that the official title may not be Hellblade 3, but it will definitely be set in the same world.
Do Xbox Fans Even Want Hellblade 3?

It’s surprising to hear that Hellblade 3 is being developed. Hellblade 2 didn’t perform as well as Xbox hoped, falling short of sales goals and receiving less positive reviews than the first Hellblade game – a rare outcome for a sequel. Considering the lengthy development process of Hellblade 2, it’s unexpected that Xbox would approve another game in the series.
With disappointing sales for Hellblade 2, it’s possible that Xbox fans aren’t strongly requesting another game in the series. Unless Hellblade 3 significantly changes the formula and attracts a wider audience, it likely won’t perform much better than its predecessor. However, Ninja Theory might surprise everyone when Hellblade 3 is revealed, if it ever is.
