XO, Kitty Season 3 Ignores Potential Romance Between Kitty & Yuri

The first season of XO, Kitty heavily suggested that Kitty Song Covey’s (Anna Cathcart) complex relationships would be a central focus. However, the third and likely final season unexpectedly abandoned one of the most important connections from the show’s beginning. Specifically, the complicated relationship between Kitty and Yuri Han (Gia Kim), which was a key element in season 1, was largely ignored.

Kitty and Yuri initially clashed, but their relationship has evolved throughout the series. Many viewers hoped they would become a couple, especially as Kitty explored her identity and came out as bisexual in season 2 of XO, Kitty. It appeared Yuri might play a significant role in her journey of self-discovery.

Sadly, the third season of XO, Kitty doesn’t address the romantic connection between the characters.

Kitty & Yuri’s Potential Romance Is Dropped Completely From XO, Kitty

Following the kiss between Kitty and Yuri in season 2 of XO, Kitty, the show didn’t immediately address what it meant for their relationship, leaving fans hoping it would be explored further. Although Yuri tried to reconcile with Julianna (Regan Aliyah) and Kitty’s relationship with Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee) developed, it felt like the connection between Kitty and Yuri wasn’t fully resolved and might reappear later in the series.

Throughout the third season of XO, Kitty, Yuri and Kitty maintain a strictly platonic relationship. Although Kitty’s bisexuality is mentioned, they act solely as friends, even recreating a photo their mothers took on their own senior trip to KISS.

Kitty is completely focused on her new boyfriend, Min Ho, and Yuri is busy rebuilding her life, so neither of them ever talks about what might have happened after their kiss. It was a bit jarring when Kitty, who had written a letter expressing her interest in a relationship during season 2 of XO, Kitty, didn’t mention her previous feelings for Yuri at all.

Kitty’s Relationship With Min Ho Takes Center Stage, Despite Lingering Confusion

As XO, Kitty progressed, Kitty’s relationship with Min Ho became more central, effectively ending any potential storylines with other characters. Although Kitty and Yuri shared a connection, their dynamic was completely overshadowed by the quickly developing romance between Kitty and Min Ho, which began early in the season.

Although Min Ho and Kitty’s love story was charming, the show focused on it so much that other important relationships felt neglected. The series seemed determined to make them a central couple for the entire season, but this meant other connections Kitty had weren’t fully explored.

A lack of communication between the couple around the middle of the season allowed Kitty to start considering other romantic interests. However, the show chose to focus less on romance overall when they broke up. Even though Kitty knew there were unresolved feelings with Yuri, she deliberately avoided addressing their history.

Kitty’s Friendship With Yuri Is Worthwhile, But Ultimately Creates Problems

Kitty and Yuri’s friendship is a highlight of XO, Kitty, but completely ending any possibility of romance between them felt unsatisfying. Even if they weren’t meant to be a couple, allowing them to discuss their feelings or explore a potential relationship would have provided closure and addressed any lingering emotions or confusion.

Since season 3 of XO, Kitty is probably the last, it’s disappointing that the potential romance between Kitty and Yuri was introduced and then largely ignored. While the show aimed to include bisexual representation, the storyline for Kitty and Yuri felt messy and ultimately didn’t deliver on its promise.
