With the February 12, 2026 release of Yakuza Kiwami 3 and its expansion, Dark Ties, getting closer, Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have shared new details about the game. They’ve revealed more about what players can do while Kiryu manages the Morning Glory orphanage, and also introduced the Kanda Damage Control system, which is exclusive to the Dark Ties expansion.
After the events of Yakuza 2 / Yakuza Kiwami 2, Kiryu has left the life of crime and is now focused on running the Morning Glory orphanage with his adopted daughter, Haruka. As he cares for the nine children living there, players can enjoy various activities with them, like gardening, helping with homework, fishing, and catching bugs.
Participating in these activities directly benefits Kiryu, making him stronger and unlocking new things to do. Each child at the orphanage also has unique storylines, ranging from helping Taichi achieve his dream of becoming a professional wrestler to assisting Riona with her interest in makeup. Completing these activities increases Kiryu’s “Daddy Rank.” He can also work with the children to craft items, which can be sold at the Morning Glory General Store to earn money for orphanage improvements.
In Dark Ties, players will help improve Kanda’s reputation as they play. Mine will do this by completing side quests and helping people around Kamurocho with their problems. Progressing through the Kanda Damage Control system will unlock special interactions called Drink Links, which will strengthen the bond between Kanda and Mine.
Back in September, Sega announced both Yakuza Kiwami 3 and the Dark Ties expansion. Like other Kiwami titles, Yakuza Kiwami 3 features a substantial visual overhaul compared to the original Yakuza 3 from 2009. The game is being built with the Dragon Engine, which brings enhanced animations, updated graphics, and more realistic physics to the gameplay and combat.
The story begins when the Morning Glory orphanage in Okinawa, which Kiryu manages after the events of Yakuza 2, is threatened with closure by the Ryudo Family. This leads Kiryu to investigate, and he quickly becomes entangled in a new conspiracy. Yakuza 3 was originally praised for its improvements over earlier games, including smoother combat and a significantly larger number of side quests compared to Yakuza and Yakuza 2.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.
