What really grabbed me was the way it wove together two timelines – the terrifying story of a girls’ soccer team surviving in the wilderness, and then how those experiences haunted them years later. Even though the third season split fans and critics, the show has stayed in the conversation thanks to an amazing cast. Several of the actresses have become genuine stars because of the complex and powerful performances they give, both as teenagers and as adults. And now, as we head into the final season of this intense drama, Yellowjackets is adding two incredibly talented veteran actors to the mix, which is really exciting!

Molly Ringwald, the beloved star of 1980s films like The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles, and June Squibb, a 96-year-old Oscar nominee, are joining the cast of Yellowjackets Season 4, according to Deadline. Ringwald will play Vicky, the mother of Van, in a recurring role. The character is portrayed as someone trying to overcome alcoholism and make amends for her past. Squibb, recently praised for her performance in Thelma, will play a role that has not yet been revealed.

The New Yellowjackets Casting Teases Season 4’s Story

Okay, so the Season 3 finale of Yellowjackets definitely dropped a huge hint about where Season 4 is headed. Seeing Teen Natalie finally make radio contact and kick off the rescue felt amazing, but it also means the show has to deal with what happens after they get out of the woods. And that’s where Vicky comes in. We already got a glimpse of Van’s really difficult home life with her mom, and now it seems like that’s going to be a major focus. It’s not just about what happened in the wilderness anymore; we’re going to see how these traumatized teens try to readjust to normal life, and specifically, how messed up their families are going to make that process. It’s a smart move, and I’m really intrigued to see how they handle the fallout.

The unexpected casting of Ann Dowd as a very old woman hints that the final season will jump far into the future. Since Dowd is 96 years old, she doesn’t fit into the show’s existing timelines of the 1990s (as a teen) or the 2020s (as an adult), suggesting a third time period will be introduced. Right now, the adult storyline is filled with conflict. We’ve just learned that Callie killed adult Lottie, and Taissa is teaming up with Misty against Shauna. This violent conflict is likely to continue through the rest of the season, possibly proving Shauna’s belief that the only way to survive is to be the last one left. If Dowd is playing a very old survivor in a future scene, the fact that she is white could put Taissa in immediate danger during the current, ongoing violence.

Yellowjackets Season 4 is expected to premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime in late 2026.
