It’s been almost a year since the popular show Yellowstone finished its five seasons, but Taylor Sheridan is still a major force in television. Since he started creating TV shows with the Western drama, he’s launched over six other successful series, some connected to Yellowstone and some not. One of his most popular streaming shows recently returned with new episodes, but it’s unclear if it will continue beyond the current season.
Only a few weeks after Taylor Sheridan announced his move from Paramount to NBCUniversal, the second season of his popular show Landman premiered on Paramount+ on November 16th. The drama, created with Christian Wallace and inspired by the 2019 podcast Boomtown, follows Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a landman working on an oil rig in West Texas. New episodes of the 10-episode season, which shows Tommy struggling with increasing stress, will be released every Sunday at 3 a.m. ET on Paramount+ until the season finale on January 18th.
Landman Is One of Paramount+’s Best Shows
The Paramount+ show Landman, which premiered in 2024, quickly became a hit, earning praise from critics and viewers alike for its compelling story, realistic tone, and strong acting. The second season continued this success, receiving similar positive reviews and matching the 78% critic score of its first season on Rotten Tomatoes.
Josh Rosenberg of Esquire noted that while the storyline sometimes feels a bit stretched, Landman is becoming one of Taylor Sheridan’s best shows in its second season. Alex Maidy from JoBlo said the new season builds on what made the first season successful, without making any negative changes.
We don’t yet have viewership numbers for Season 2, so it’s unknown if it performed as well as its popular first season. However, Landman has quickly become a hit again, currently ranking as the No. 2 show on Paramount+ in the U.S. (behind South Park) and No. 3 globally, according to data from FlixPatrol.
What Does Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount Exit Mean for the Future of Landman?
Although Paramount hasn’t officially confirmed a third season of Landman, fans don’t need to panic just yet despite Taylor Sheridan’s new deal with NBCUniversal. Sheridan’s contract with NBCUniversal doesn’t begin until 2029, giving him several years to continue working on his current shows, including Landman. Plus, Paramount will still own the rights to Landman even after Sheridan leaves. Showrunner Christian Wallace told ScreenRant that everything is continuing as planned, and any potential future concerns are for someone else to handle.
Several people connected to the show are hopeful about its future. Mark Collie, one of the show’s stars, said he expects it to continue successfully and that he thinks Taylor Sheridan will remain involved in some capacity.
