Tekken 3 isn’t often re-released, and some believe this is because it features Gon, a character from a licensed manga series.
Okay, so even though it’s easy to forget, this awesome fighter was actually on the PS Classic – the European version, at least! And it’s cool to remember that Bandai Namco was still making games based on it as late as 2012, on the 3DS of all places. It shows how much staying power this character really has.
Good news, everyone! I just wanted to let you know that the character you’ve been asking about is in the new version of the game, which dropped today on PS5 and PS4. And if you’re a PS Plus Premium member, you can actually download the whole classic for free – awesome!
To unlock Gon, simply achieve a high score in Survival mode and enter ‘GON’ as your initials when submitting it to the leaderboard. He’ll then appear as a hidden character during the character selection screen.
Okay, so I still love Tekken 3, it really has aged well! But… Gon? Man, playing as him is rough. Everything he does is just so slow, and while it’s kinda funny how tiny he is, it feels like he’s only in the game to be a joke character. He’s just not very good, honestly.
We always doubted Bandai Namco would remove the character, and it’s reassuring to confirm this version of the game is a faithful and complete recreation of the original PlayStation release.
