A revival of The X-Files is moving forward, and Himesh Patel will be one of the stars. The project is being directed by Ryan Coogler, who won an Academy Award for his previous work.
The actor, famous for roles in shows like EastEnders and Damned, and films like Yesterday and Don’t Look Up, will star in a new sci-fi drama alongside Danielle Deadwyler, his former co-star from Station Eleven. They will both be the leads in the series.
Patel and Deadwyler are joining the show as completely new characters, not as reimaginings of Fox Mulder or Dana Scully, previously played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
The series follows two accomplished FBI agents – one with a by-the-book approach and the other more unconventional – who team up when they’re tasked with reopening a forgotten unit that investigates strange and unexplainable events.

Chris Carter, who created the original show, is an executive producer, and Jennifer Yale (known for ‘The Copenhagen Test’) will be the showrunner. Michael Coogler is writing, directing, and producing, drawing inspiration from his mother’s fondness for the original series.
Gillian Anderson, famous for her role in The X-Files, recently shared her thoughts on the show’s revival after reading the script for the first episode, which Hulu has approved.
At Awesome Con in Washington DC, the actress shared that she’d spoken with the writer-director about his plans for the show’s return and felt positive about his ideas. She described him as a very talented and approachable person, and praised the pilot script. She encouraged viewers to approach the revival with an open mind, predicting it would be something unique and exciting.
Anderson did not disclose whether she’ll appear in the reboot, but went on to add: “It’s special.”
