Kusanagi Mizuho’s popular shojo fantasy manga, “Yona of the Dawn,” first appeared in the “Hana to Yume” magazine on August 5th, 2009. After a long run of 16 years, the story is now reaching its end, but the conclusion has been postponed following an unforeseen break after Chapter 271. The manga will resume with Chapter 272 on October 3rd, 2025. In the meantime, as fans eagerly wait for the manga’s return, Mizuho shared a beautiful artwork of Son Hak to mark his birthday on August 8th. This artwork depicts him with a gentle smile while wearing the pendant that Yona had given him during their journeys.
In this story, Yona’s long-time friend and former bodyguard, Hak, takes on a significant role as the main male character. On the fateful night when Yona’s father was murdered, Hak bravely confronted the rebels to protect her, saving her life in the process. They narrowly evaded the palace after that event, and ever since, Hak has remained by Yona’s side. Initially unspoken, Hak harbored feelings for Yona, which she eventually returns during their journey together. Over the years, the manga has tested their bond through various trials, but the final arc presents the most challenging part of their shared journey so far.
What to Expect From Yona of the Dawn Manga Finale

Following their extensive journeys through the Kouka Kingdom and adjacent lands, Yona and her companions find themselves residing within Hiryuu Castle. However, they become entangled in a complex political conflict. Simultaneously, Zeno grapples with his personal issues, aiming to put an end to the Dragon Warriors’ hardships and his own eternal existence. Beneath his lively and optimistic demeanor, he harbored deep sorrows. Now, he finds himself presented with a prime opportunity to execute his plans. Subsequently, Zeno confines himself and the other Dragon Warriors within the Chalice of the Four Dragons’ Blood, unaware that Yona would eventually enter the chalice herself, endeavoring to rescue him and the others.

The story takes a turn as Hak’s life is threatened, leaving Yona with a tough decision to make. The manga ends after resolving the conflict involving the Dragon Gods and ending the cycle desired by Zeno. Furthermore, the series hasn’t disclosed the identities of the Sword and Shield mentioned in the Oracle Ik-Soo’s prophecy. These two are expected to awaken once the four Dragon Warriors are assembled. Over time, many theories have emerged about the identities of the Sword and Shield, but the manga has not provided any confirmation. Upon their awakening, Yona (the Red Dragon) will bring back the dawn, marking the end of her journey.
Studio Pierrot transformed the manga into an anime, broadcasting 24 episodes from 2014 to 2015. The anime ended when Yona and Hak assembled their entire team, marking the start of their journey. Regrettably, a second season of the anime wasn’t announced, despite its widespread popularity. The manga currently boasts over 15 million copies distributed globally, suggesting an immediate need for a remake or a new season.
