You Might’ve Missed Scott Swift’s Nod to Travis Kelce at Chiefs Game

Travis Kelce has clearly been talking business with Taylor Swift’s father. 

On September 28th, Scott Swift showed his support for Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce by attending the game against the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs won with a score of 37-20, and Scott Swift wore a hat from Travis’ American Eagle X Tru Kolors line while there.

On September 28, a photo was posted to X showing Scott relaxing in a suite at Arrowhead Stadium. He was wearing a khaki suede baseball hat from the Tru Kolors collection. This limited-edition line was launched last month by the NFL star in collaboration with his sportswear brand and American Eagle.

It’s no surprise that Scott is impressed with the three-time Super Bowl winner, who announced his engagement to Taylor last month after dating for two years. This isn’t the first time Scott has shown his admiration for the athlete.

In fact, it was Scott and Travis’ dad Ed Kelce that pushed Travis to finally pop the question. 

“Travis asked him for permission around a month ago, I think,” Ed remembered while on The Jimmy and Nath Show on August 26th. “Scott basically asked him to hurry up and finish it,” he continued.

Indeed, Scott and Ed encouraged the Happy Gilmore 2 star to propose sooner than he had planned. 

“He was planning a really elaborate event,” Ed went on. “He wanted to make it extra special. And I told him the same thing Scott did – I asked her if who she was with would make it special, not where it happened. You could even do it on the side of the road. So, Scott had already told him, ‘Just get it done.’”

In addition, Taylor has spoken about the close relationship between her fiancé and her father, mentioning that the Chiefs player made time to visit him after his heart bypass surgery this past summer. 

Taylor shared that Trav was recently talking to someone about this, during her August 13th appearance on the New Heights podcast. She recounted him saying, ‘He told me he’s currently at 75 percent, and if that’s only 75 percent, I’m really worried about how much worse it could get.’

Even before Taylor Swift‘s appearance at the Kansas City Chief’s game on September 24, 2023 became a major cultural event, Travis Kelce was a fan of the award-winning singer.

The star tight end first showed interest in Taylor, as shared by a teammate in a TikTok video the Chiefs posted in August 2023 (looking back, this was around the time they began dating in secret).

Before Travis had a chance to respond to the question about his celebrity crush, wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling quickly revealed, “Taylor Swift!”

Travis smiled at the camera before holding his finger up to his mustache, saying, “Alright now!”

He often seems lost in thought (particularly when watching Taylor on the jumbotron at his games), but Travis is a bit different from Taylor’s past boyfriends when you consider her dating history. It’s a noticeable distinction.

She’s usually drawn to people in creative fields, such as actors (Joe Alwyn, Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor Lautner and Tom Hiddleston) and musicians (Calvin Harris, John Mayer, Harry Styles and, more recently, Matty Healy).

Maybe that explains why her relationship with the fun and playful athlete-who agreed to a new two-year contract with the Chiefs for $34.25 million in 2024-seems like a welcome change for Taylor, especially after her very private six-year relationship with Joe ended in April 2023.

It seems the 10-time Pro Bowler got what he wanted – a relationship with the superstar. He practically willed it into existence through strong desire, persistence, and openly expressing his feelings of infatuation.

Travis recently shared the story of how he tried-and failed-to meet Taylor Swift when he went to her Eras Tour concert in Kansas City on July 7, 2023. He revealed he’d made a special gift for her: a friendship bracelet with his “number” on it, hoping to give it to Taylor. (He didn’t confirm whether this was his jersey number or his phone number.)

Although he said he was “disappointed” about not seeing her after the concert, Taylor told TIME in December 2023 that she eventually listened to his podcast.

She remembered that Travis playfully called her out on his podcast, and she thought it was really cool. They started spending time together right after that. They actually had a good amount of time to connect privately, which she appreciated, as it allowed them to get to know each other well.

Regarding the idea that their first official outing was at the game on Sept. 24, Taylor explained to TIME that they “would never be crazy enough to publicly announce a first date like that.”

Ever since she started dating Travis, Taylor has been spotted out and about more often. This includes hanging out with friends in New York City and celebrating at events like the 2023 MTV VMAs and the 2024 Grammys.

Honestly, the moment everyone is *still* talking about? Seeing her right there in Travis’ suite at the Chief’s game on September 24th, 2023, when they played the Chicago Bears. It was a huge deal, and I was so excited to see her supporting him! I mean, can you blame everyone for being obsessed?

Instead of being embarrassed by the cameras, Taylor excitedly cheered and shouted “Let’s fking go!” when Travis scored a touchdown. Similar to how the public reacted, Travis himself confessed he was surprised when Taylor accepted his invitation.

Travis mentioned on his New Heights podcast days later, “I have to give a shoutout to Taylor for showing up – it took a lot of courage.” He continued, “I thought it was amazing that everyone in our suite – friends and family alike – had only positive things to say about her.”

“She looked amazing,” he added. ” It was definitely a game I will remember, that’s for damn sure.”

Ever since then, Taylor and Travis have been seen holding hands on dates in various places around the globe. They’ve also frequented a Christmas-themed bar in Kansas City, where they openly showed affection for each other – lots of PDA!

Following her disclosure to TIME that she stepped back from public life after the widely publicized 2016 phone call involving Kim Kardashian, Taylor is now planning to attend events tonight…and as often as she pleases, if you don’t mind.

“Life is short,” she stated. “Make the most of it and go on adventures. Spending so many years isolating myself at home-I can’t recover that lost time. I’ve become more open and trusting compared to who I was six years ago.”

On his podcast from September 27, 2023, Travis was willing to share some details about his interactions with Taylor, but he also made it clear that he wants to be more careful about discussing his personal life in the future.

I realize I’m the one who brought all this attention on myself,” he explained. “I made and shared those friendship bracelets, and I openly talked about being upset that I hadn’t met Taylor.” However, he added, he didn’t intend to share every detail of their relationship.

He clarified, “The truth is, this is my private life and I want to be respectful of both our lives.” He continued, “I’m having a good time and I definitely enjoyed this past weekend. From now on, I think I’ll limit my comments to sports and just say ‘alright, no’ – that’s where I’ll draw the line.”

In a November 2023 interview with the Wall Street Journal, he strongly reaffirmed his intention to remain calm and composed.

People kept telling me, ‘Don’t mess this up!’ And I was just thinking, ‘Okay, I understand,'” he explained to the outlet, before talking about the media attention. “My biggest concern was making sure I didn’t say anything that would alienate Taylor.”

However, he hasn’t been able to avoid mentioning his girlfriend in public-he acknowledged she helped increase his jersey sales and described her as after she received boos from New England Patriots fans during a game in December 2023.

He told WSJ that he’s never been very talkative. However, being with Taylor and witnessing her intelligence has been incredibly inspiring – a real eye-opener. He says he’s constantly learning from her.

Similar to Taylor, who has a strong relationship with her parents, especially her mother Andrea, Travis comes from a close family that includes his parents Ed and Donna Kelce.

Donna Kelce gained widespread recognition as the first mother to witness her two sons compete against each other in the Super Bowl. In February 2023, her son Travis played against his older brother, Jason Kelce, who is the center for the Philadelphia Eagles, in the championship game.

It took a lot for everything to fall into place – for them to finish high school, go to college, and then play professional sports. And then to both be selected for the Pro Bowl and play in the Super Bowl, and now for this to happen,” Donna shared with ET at the time. “It feels like a dream come true. I truly can’t put into words how meaningful this is for our family, it’s just unbelievable.

Donna, after a 25-year marriage to Ed that ended in divorce, showed her support for both of her sons by wearing a unique jacket – it was split down the middle with Philadelphia Eagles colors on one side and Kansas City Chiefs colors on the other.

Following the Super Bowl – where the Chiefs defeated the Eagles – Travis and Jason became emotional as they thought about sharing the moment with their mother, Donna.

“Seeing my mom was when I really started to get emotional,” Jason shared on the brothers’ New Heights podcast. “It was incredible… she was absolutely thrilled for a week.”

“She was a true champion,” Travis continued. “She was completely in control and consistently excelled throughout.”

Similar to Taylor and her brother Austin Swift, Travis shares a close relationship with his older brother Jason, who first motivated him to pursue football.

Oh my gosh, you guys, it’s not just that Travis and Jason are amazing NFL players, but did you *hear* about their podcast? They started New Heights back in September 2022, and honestly, it’s the best! It’s seriously brought them even closer – and let’s be real, they’re probably making a *fortune* from it too! I listen to every single episode, and it just makes me love them even more. It’s a total win-win!

Oh my gosh, you guys, when NBC Sports asked Travis about it back in February 2023, he explained it’s like they finally scheduled a solid two to three hour block each week where they *have* to talk. Seriously, they have to unpack everything – what they’re going through, all the stuff happening during the week *and* during the games! He even said, and I quote, “It’s almost been like therapy, man.” Can you believe it? It’s amazing how much this has helped them! I’m so glad they found a way to connect like this.

Both Taylor and Travis are friends with Miles Teller. The Top Gun: Maverick star and his wife, Keleigh Sperry, were even asked by Taylor to appear in the music video for her 2021 song “I Bet You Think About Me” from Red (Taylor’s Version).

While that was happening, Travis teamed up with Miles and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to practice golf before the 2022 American Century Championship.

Miles shared a photo on Twitter of himself golfing with the athletes, captioning it, “Grip it and rip it.” Travis confirmed their close friendship-a true bromance-by resharing the photo and writing, “Back at it like we never left!!”

(It’s funny, Miles is a big, dedicated Philadelphia Eagles fan, so maybe he helped arrange a real-life meeting between Travis and Taylor?)

Although Taylor went to the game on Sept. 24, 2023, by herself, she was accompanied by a group of famous friends when she watched the Chiefs play against the New York Jets at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey on Oct. 1.

I was so thrilled to see her arrive with her closest friends! It was amazing to see Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds right there with her, and even Hugh Jackman, a friend of Ryan’s, joined the group. Plus, Sophie Turner and Sabrina Carpenter were there, and I couldn’t believe Queer Eye‘s Antoni Porowski was part of the fun too!

Their presence at the game was significant, but what really stood out was Ryan starting to follow Travis on Instagram.

Travis hasn’t just played in four Super Bowls-he’s won three of them (no big deal!), but he’s also hosted Saturday Night Live, proving he’s comfortable performing under pressure.

Okay, it might *sound* small, but honestly, Taylor’s written so many songs about being worried her fame will be too much for anyone she dates! It’s like, she’s constantly processing that fear. You can totally hear it in songs like “Peace” and “The Archer” – they’re so raw and real about that struggle. It just breaks my heart knowing she deals with that, but I feel like she puts it all into her music, you know? It’s amazing.

You know, when it comes to relationships, it really boils down to the people you’re with. As I’ve seen, if a partner has a big problem with something, the temptation is to hide it – and honestly, I don’t love that approach. It creates this feeling, for me at least, like I’m doing something wrong, almost like I’m running from the law. I definitely don’t want to feel like a fugitive, constantly worrying about keeping things secret. It shouldn’t be, ‘Oh my god, we’re together, better hide!’ It’s just not healthy.

“I feel like if you can be in a relationship and have it seem normal, that would be good.” 

During his WSJ interview, Travis showed he can definitely handle the challenges of being married to someone as influential as Taylor.

I’ve never been with someone who carries themselves like that before… I don’t have any experience with it,” he explained. “However, that doesn’t mean I’m avoiding it or backing down.”

He explained that she’s constantly under intense public observation – the media are always watching her, with paparazzi waiting outside her home, following her to restaurants, and even waiting at the airport after every flight. He said she’s simply trying to live and enjoy her life. He also added, “When she acts like that I better not be the one acting all strange.”

Fans are convinced Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s romance deserves its own romantic comedy after a concert attendee filmed Taylor running into Travis’ arms for a sweet kiss following her Argentina show in November 2023. This came after she playfully changed the lyrics to Karma from “the guy on the screen” to “the guy on the Chiefs,” surprising Travis, who was there with her father, Scott Swift.

Supporting each other at games-Taylor went to 13 Chiefs games during her first season with Travis, even flying directly from a concert in Tokyo to attend the Super Bowl-demonstrates the depth of their commitment.

We’re there to support each other and enjoy seeing him do what he’s passionate about, and we don’t worry about who else is around,” Taylor explained to TIME about their public displays of support. “It’s the opposite of hiding a relationship and going to great lengths to keep it secret. We’re simply proud of each other.”

So, if seeing Taylor at the NFL games bothers you, she’s simply not going to hold a grudge. 

She explained that there’s a camera about half a mile away, but she has no idea where it is or when it might be broadcasting footage of her. “I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or just once,” she said. “I’m simply there to support Travis. I really have no clue if I’m getting too much airtime and bothering some dads, Brads, and Chads.”

Regarding Killa Trav’s birthday on October 5th, it’s interesting to note he shares it with Taylor Swift’s late grandmother, Marjorie Finlay, who inspired the song “Marjorie” from her 2020 album evermore. It almost feels like a meaningful coincidence…
