The trailer for Scream 7 is generating a lot of excitement online, especially with Neve Campbell returning as Sidney Prescott. Now a mother, Sidney finds herself a new target for Ghostface, who is now going after her daughter, Tatum (played by Isabel May). As usual, Scream fans are trying to figure out who is under the Ghostface mask and how many people are involved in the latest killings. Many suspect either Matthew Lillard or Scott Foley, who previously played Ghostface killers Stu Macher and Roman Bridger in earlier Scream films. Although neither actor appears in the first trailer, fans noticed a subtle hint related to Stu Macher – did you catch it?
The trailer for Scream 7 ends with a voice saying, “This is gonna be fun.” That voice is Matthew Lillard, who returns as Stu Macher and sounds just as frightening and unstable as he did in the original 1996 film.
How Are Scream’s Dead Killer’s Back In 7?

The central puzzle of Scream 7 appears more complex and impactful than the initial trailer suggests. While it seems like a straightforward continuation of the story – with the main character, Sidney, facing her attacker again – the Scream franchise became famous because director Wes Craven blended classic slasher elements with clever, self-aware commentary on horror movie clichés. The recent Scream films (starting in 2022 and continuing in 2023) have successfully updated this approach for today’s audiences, acknowledging the current trend of reboots and sequels within the film industry.
Scream 7 feels different from the other recent films, as it’s caught between the series’ older style and its newer direction. Scream 5 and 6 established that Ghostface has become a symbol with devoted followers, and that there’s a network of killers – some connected to past villains, others found online – determined to continue the violence and target survivors. With Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and other original cast members potentially not returning for future installments, Scream 7 seems like a perfect opportunity to create a grand finale for Sidney Prescott’s story, potentially even bringing back Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis, who continues to be a haunting presence in the franchise.
Scream 7 will be in theaters on February 27, 2026.
