This year’s Call of Duty beta is different – it’s not just focused on multiplayer. While the first day featured multiplayer action, the beta expanded on October 3rd to include a preview of the Zombies mode that will be available when the full game launches in November.
Currently, you can only play in Survival mode on the Vandorn Farm map. However, there’s a special reward for dedicated players: reaching round 50 in a single match unlocks the “Tip of the Spear” Dark Ops challenge, which grants you a unique calling card available only during the beta.
Looking to travel quickly? You’ll probably need a Raygun! It’s returned in the beta version, and there are two ways to find one. Both rely on chance, but one doesn’t cost anything. Here’s how to get it.
Method 1: Spin the Mystery Box for a chance at a Raygun
As an analyst, I’ve been testing the Mystery Box, and while it *can* award a Raygun – I’ve personally received one – it’s a pretty rare outcome. It definitely functions as advertised, but in my experience, most spins yield less desirable items.
Each spin costs 950 Essence, but you can get a free respin by using the Respin Cycle Gobblegum. It doesn’t happen every time, but if you keep trying, you’ll eventually have a chance to win the Raygun.
The Mystery Box is located in the building across from the barn, just to the right of the farmhouse. You’ll need to collect enough Essence to unlock the door before you can get inside. Once you do, give it a spin and see if you win!
Method 2: Feed Chompy the trashcan for mostly salvage, but possibly a Raygun

You can also find a Raygun by visiting Chompy, a trashcan located between the barn and farmhouse. He sometimes shakes a little. If you hit the lid with a melee weapon, it will open, allowing you to feed him.
You’ll need to give up either your weapon or your grenades to get something from Chompy. Usually, it’s Salvage, which is helpful if you’re trying to survive for a long time. But sometimes, Chompy will give you a Raygun instead.
Everything is based on chance, so just keep playing! You can give Chompy food up to three times each round, and giving up your powerful attacks is the most effective strategy. Keep collecting anything you can find to feed the trashcan. If you play enough times, you’ll eventually get a Raygun without having to sacrifice your Essence.
What to do after you get your Raygun

The Raygun works just like it did in the Zombies mode of Black Ops 6 – it’s incredibly powerful to begin with, but even better after you upgrade it with the Pack-a-Punch.
Once you reach the later stages of the game, the regular Raygun won’t do enough damage to enemies as their health increases. Upgrading it with Pack-a-Punch will make a big difference, particularly when you start facing tougher, special enemies.
You’ll find the Pack-a-Punch machine on the barn’s top floor, but it won’t work until you’ve restored power. Just complete the steps in the quest, and then you’ll be able to upgrade your weapons.
I can’t offer a guaranteed way to reach round 50 – I haven’t done it myself, and I’m not very good at Zombies! However, besides things like Augments, Gobblegums, and a Pack-a-Punched Raygun, there’s one more helpful tip for getting through the harder rounds.
The Saw Blade, which you can see in the image, is positioned right outside the barn. It quickly destroys regular zombies! It costs 1,000 Essence and has a cooldown, but it’s a huge help. Activate it, then stand on top of the nearby car to draw zombies into its path.
This helps you concentrate your firepower on tougher enemies, increasing your chances of finishing the Dark Ops Challenge without taking damage.
Just a heads-up: there’s also a Dark Ops Challenge in the multiplayer beta. You can complete it by getting 1,000 eliminations.
