You only have a short time left to own the only official John Wick video game — soon it’ll be gone for good

The licensing aspect of video games seems to consistently hinder their long-term existence, and it looks like this is happening once more.

The unique John Wick-themed video game, John Wick Hex, will no longer be available for purchase on all platforms as it’s set for permanent removal. This development comes as a bit of surprise since there isn’t another official John Wick game in the market.

It’s unclear if the expiration of the John Wick license is explicitly stated as the cause, but given the unexpected announcement, it’s not difficult to guess that could be the explanation for it.

The message, posted to the game’s Steam page, simply reads as follows:

“John Wick Hex will be removed from sale on all platforms beginning July 17th, 2025.

Starting from July 17th, 2025, current owners can continue to play John Wick Hex through their digital libraries (PC or Console) and physical copies (Console only). However, after this date, no new copies of John Wick Hex will be sold, regardless of the platform or retailer.

In a few days, on July 17th, the date approaches swiftly as I pen this down. This means you don’t have long left to secure a copy if you’ve thought about it before. To be honest, I haven’t had a chance to play John Wick Hex myself, but I’ve recently obtained a digital copy for future use.

Most likely, the withdrawal from sale will affect not only digital versions but also physical ones for Xbox and PlayStation as well. So, this rule applies equally to them.

John Wick Hex deviates from what one might typically expect from the franchise, offering a strategic gameplay style rather than the usual fast-paced action. It’s often compared to Chess, with time serving as a significant adversary in this game.

Additionally, it boasts voice performances by stars such as Ian McShane, Lance Reddick (who played these characters in the films), and Troy Baker.

It’s unfortunate when a seemingly persistent problem like licensing seems to be cutting short a game’s lifespan. This has been observed even in games that are more locally relevant, such as the Forza Horizon series. These games, rich with music and vehicle licenses, have faced similar issues.

Licenses typically have an expiration date built into them, that’s simply how they function. However, at this point in time, there hasn’t been a price drop for the game, although it would be beneficial for many to take advantage of such an offer if one were available.

Grab it now on Steam or Epic Games for PC, or the Xbox store before it’s gone forever.
