Youngblood Reveals First Look Preview of Manga-Inspired Launch Edition

The comic *Youngblood* remains a landmark achievement, consistently ranking as one of the most successful independent comics ever published, with over a million copies sold. Now, three decades later, its creator, Rob Liefeld, is reviving the team. Image Comics is releasing stunning new editions of the series, inspired by manga, in a striking black, white, and red color scheme.

Each issue of *Youngblood* will have a cover featuring black, white, and gray artwork with striking red accents. What’s really exciting is that this unique style won’t be limited to just the covers—the interior pages will match, creating a consistently stunning visual experience, as you can see below.

Rob Liefeld explained that he’s a big fan of manga’s art style and has incorporated it into the Youngblood manga editions. He’s happy with how well they’ve been received and plans to release a manga-style version with each new issue of the comic.

Youngblood #1 Brings Back the Series’ Missing Ingredient

Image Comics’ recent deluxe single issues of *Youngblood* sold out almost immediately. Now, the team is launching a new ongoing series, starting with a crisis in the Pacific Ocean. A strange ship appears, and soon after, a dangerous enemy from the past returns. Youngblood will need to quickly adjust their strategies if they want to defeat this threat.

Though *Youngblood* has been rebooted before, this marks the first time since the initial run that Rob Liefeld is fully in charge. Previous attempts had some interesting ideas, but Image Comics’ Publisher and Chief Creative Officer, Eric Stephenson, explains they were missing one key thing.

Over the past three decades, it’s become common for comic book series to be rebooted, and *Youngblood* is no exception. However, this relaunch is different because Rob Liefeld is fully leading the project again. According to Stephenson, the original *Youngblood* #1 back in 1991 really showcased Liefeld’s vision for comics. While many skilled creators have contributed to *Youngblood* over the years, Stephenson believes Rob Liefeld’s involvement was always key. For fans of Rob Liefeld, this new series delivers exactly what they’d expect and represents the long-awaited return they’ve been hoping for.

Besides the versions inspired by Japanese manga, the first issue of *Youngblood* (coming in 2025) will also have a series of team-up cover illustrations created by a fantastic group of artists, including Skottie Young, Ryan Stegman, and Daniel Warren Johnson. A complete list of artists is available below.
