I’m a huge superhero fan, and it’s amazing how popular the genre still is! Things are a little weird with DC right now, though. The old universe they built is officially over, and James Gunn is starting completely fresh with a new one – you can find the old stuff on HBO Max if you want to revisit it. But recently, Zack Snyder has been posting behind-the-scenes photos from when he was working on those movies, and everyone’s been commenting on how much they miss Ben Affleck as Batman after seeing a throwback picture he shared!
The new DC Universe is already underway with three projects announced as part of the ‘Gods and Monsters’ lineup. However, many fans are still discussing the previous DC Extended Universe, and recent posts from Zack Snyder are keeping that conversation going. He just shared a picture of Ben Affleck in his Batman costume, which you can see below.

Despite the generally negative reviews of Batman v Superman – which famously spawned the “Sad Affleck” meme – Ben Affleck looked fantastic as Bruce Wayne, especially in the character’s iconic armor. He also physically transformed for the role, becoming impressively muscular to portray the powerful DC hero. Sadly, he only appeared as Batman in a few films, including brief appearances in Suicide Squad and The Flash.

HBO Max offers streaming access to a vast library of movies, shows, documentaries, and the DC universe, including Batman films featuring Ben Affleck. Subscriptions begin at $10.99 per month for the Basic With Ads plan.
People who followed the DC movies will remember the excitement when Ben Affleck was cast as Batman. Many fans, including myself, really enjoyed his portrayal of the character – both the dark, gritty Batman in Batman v Superman and the more hopeful version in Justice League. Unfortunately, Affleck never got to direct his own Batman film. Now, fans are still expressing their desire to see that project happen, as you can see in the comments on Snyder’s post. Here are a few of those responses:
- Give Ben a year to get in shape and then give him and Zack ONE solo Batman film and we will all be happy – chrisdolimusic
- This depresses me. We should have gotten a solo Batfleck movie. – jwaltonsu
- #RestoretheSnyderVerse – slykane
- Please God, give us Ben Affleck’s solo movie. 🙏🏻😢 – movieswood17
- #MakeTheBatfleckMovie #RestoreTheSnyderVerse – georgeseia
It’s common to see these kinds of reactions online. Zack Snyder has a very dedicated fanbase who strongly support his ideas for the DC Universe. They successfully campaigned for the release of the ‘Snyder Cut,’ so they’re still actively sharing their opinions, like in the recent post about Ben Affleck.
It doesn’t look like Warner Bros. will revive Zack Snyder’s plans for the DC Universe, meaning his planned sequels to Justice League likely won’t happen. With the studio now focused on a new shared universe, those films are probably off the table. However, because Snyder keeps sharing old content, it’s likely fans will continue to talk about the possibility of restoring his vision.
The next DC film scheduled for release is Supergirl, coming to theaters on June 26th, 2026. Fans are eagerly anticipating what director Zack Snyder might share on social media in the meantime.
