Zack Snyder Shared Another Ben Affleck Batman Throwback (And It Feels Like He’s Fueling The #RestoreTheSnyderVerse Movement)

Comic books remain incredibly popular, but there’s been a big change at DC. James Gunn, one of the company’s CEOs, has ended the old DC Extended Universe and is launching a new shared universe called Gods and Monsters. At the same time, director Zack Snyder has been sharing images from his previous DC films, including a recent photo of Ben Affleck as Batman, which has energized fans who are hoping for his vision to be revived – a movement known as #RestoreTheSnyderVerse.

Several DC movies are on the way, but many fans are still interested in the older DC films that are available on HBO Max. Director Zack Snyder seems to be acknowledging this interest, as he recently shared a photo featuring Ben Affleck from the ‘Knightmare’ storyline. You can see the photo below.

This is a really striking image! Ben Affleck looks fantastic as Batman, although it’s unusual to see him with a gun. We first saw this version of Batman, known as the Knightmare, in Batman v Superman, and it was further developed with additional footage in the Snyder Cut. Fans are going wild over this behind-the-scenes look at The Dark Knight.

HBO Max offers streaming access to a vast library of content, including movies, shows, documentaries, and everything from the DC Universe (DCU, DCEU, and classic titles). Plans begin at $10.99 per month for the Basic With Ads option. See the deal here.

After Zack Snyder’s Justice League came out, his fans began a campaign urging Warner Bros. to continue his vision for the DC Universe with the hashtag #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. While the studio hasn’t shown any interest in doing so – and it seemed even less likely after they cancelled the entire DC Extended Universe – fans haven’t stopped expressing their support, as evidenced by the recent comments on the director’s social media. Here’s a sample of what they’re saying:

  • I speak for ALL of us when I say WE (yes WE) want to see this story continue – maketherichieverse
  • We need Zack Snyder’s Justice League Part 2 #RestoreTheSnyderVerse! – snyderqueen_
  • Sequel. Now! – realmanofdcinema
  • Man, I need this. I haven’t been excited for a DC movie since the Snyder Cut. – huang_jun_art
  • We won’t get any better this, the amount of work, love and dedication to this set the bar to high. #RestoreTheSnyderVerse – thestonedrabbit

Many fans still hope to see Zack Snyder finish his planned five-movie story for the DC Universe, including the two sequels to his Justice League film. The glimpse of a darker future shown in the Snyder Cut fueled this desire, leaving some viewers eager to see where that story could have gone. However, it seems unlikely that Warner Bros. will revive Snyder’s vision.

Zack Snyder’s frequent posts of images from the DC Extended Universe have not only energized fans supporting his work, but have also rapidly increased his Instagram following. He currently has over 626,000 followers, and with the continued release of DC photos, it seems likely he’ll soon reach one million.

The next DC film coming to cinemas is Supergirl, scheduled for release on June 26th, 2026. And for those who want to revisit the previous DC Universe films, they’re all available to stream on HBO Max.
