Zendaya Details Desire for Privacy Amid Life in Public Eye

Zendaya has weaved a difficult web when it comes to dealing with fame.

More than a year after getting engaged to her Spider-Man co-star, Tom Holland, the Euphoria actress has spoken about the challenges of living her life in the public eye.

Zendaya recently told Robert Pattinson in an interview with Interview magazine that being in the public eye means some things are just not meant for public consumption. She explained that everyone deserves to keep certain aspects of their life private, for themselves and the people they care about.

The 29-year-old admitted that her public persona can even be at odds with the characters she plays.

I really value my privacy, both for the characters I create and for myself personally. While I aim to be genuine when I’m out in public, I also believe in keeping certain aspects of my life private.

This isn’t the first time Zendaya has shared her disaffected acceptance with life in the spotlight.

I understand some aspects of my life will inevitably be public,” she explained to Elle in 2023. “I’m a person who lives and loves, and that can’t be hidden. However, I still get to decide what I want to share with the world.

I really connected with what she said. It wasn’t about wanting to disappear, but about finding a balance. She wants to live her life authentically and peacefully, without feeling like she needs to hide who she is. It’s about owning your space and just… being, without fear. That resonated deeply with me.

Zendaya and Tom Holland first addressed their relationship in 2021 after photos taken by the paparazzi surfaced, prompting them to confirm they were dating.

Tom explained to GQ that being famous means losing control over their privacy. He said a private moment between two people in love can quickly become public for everyone to see.

As he put it, “We sort of felt robbed of our privacy.”

Although Tom and Zendaya’s relationship is now public, it wasn’t something they intentionally revealed or planned for.

“I don’t think it’s about not being ready,” he added. “It’s just that we didn’t want to.”

If Tom Holland and Zendaya are going to publicly share details about their relationship, they definitely want everyone to know how strong their love is. For example, in September, Tom playfully corrected a fan who called Zendaya his ‘girlfriend,’ making sure to say ‘fiancée’ instead.
