Looking back at the styles of yesteryears, it feels like Y2K fashion is making a stylish resurgence among A-list trendsetters today. Be it Kim Kardashian’s revival of the millennial belly chain trend or Emily Ratajkowski donning J.Lo’s iconic low-rise Grammys dress during Halloween last year, we can’t help but reminisce and jump on this time travel bandwagon! Zoë Kravitz is adding her unique touch to the noughties fashion by swapping the LBD for a bold low-cut little black skirt and top at her latest red carpet event. As a movie buff, I can’t help but feel like a fashion historian caught in the middle of an unexpected yet exciting fashion revival!
The resurgence of low-rise jeans from the 2000s amongst Gen Z doesn’t really excite me, but there are certainly trendsetters who know how to rock this Y2K trend in a fabulous way, like Zoë Kravitz. Most recently, she graced the red carpet at the Paris premiere of her film, Caught Stealing, wearing a lace slip. At the New York premiere, instead of a little black dress (LBD), Kravitz opted for a little black shirt and top that evokes the best nostalgia from the noughties:
The low-rise jeans trend from the 2000s being embraced by Gen Z leaves me feeling somewhat unenthused, yet there are many influencers who know how to breathe new life into this Y2K fad, such as Zoë Kravitz. Recently, she made a stunning appearance on the red carpet of her movie, Caught Stealing, in a lace slip. Instead of donning a traditional little black dress (LBD) for the New York premiere, Kravitz chose a chic black shirt and top that captures the essence of the 2000s:
I’d certainly love to have a physique like that! In the striking photo call for “The Batman,” you can see the actress wearing a black long-sleeved V-neck crop top paired with a low-rise maxi skirt. What sets Kravitz’s skirt apart is its V-shaped cut just below her waistline. You know, this low-rise fashion trend could actually grow on me!
Zoë Kravitz has certainly showcased bold black ensembles in the past. Her appearance at the Saint Laurent Spring-Summer fashion show, where she donned a sheer little black dress, and her cheeky black number at the Oscars after-party left cameras captivated. However, her recent choice of a shirt-and-top combo in little black, reminiscent of the early 2000s club scene and embracing exposed midriffs, is a deliberate throwback to that era. This outfit serves as an homage to the 2000s that makes me yearn for that decade even more.
Apart from the Primetime Emmy nominee dazzling in elegance on the New York red carpet, her co-star, Austin Butler, also shone brilliantly. Together, they exude an effortless sense of sophistication and style while donning black attire.
The Primetime Emmy nominee turned heads at the New York red carpet in a stunning appearance, and Austin Butler, her co-star, equally impressed with his fashionable choice of black ensemble. This duo oozes effortless chicness while wearing black.

Austin Butler’s fashionable red carpet attire might not scream 2000s, but there’s a definite air of Elvis Presley about his style as he dons a sleek black leather jacket and dark sunglasses. The Golden Globe winner truly exudes confidence.
As a film enthusiast, it’s evident that Michael B. Jordan is ready to display his chiseled physique in “Dune: Part Two,” even under the sleek leather jacket he’s wearing. Being meticulous about maintaining his fitness for the glamour world, he certainly isn’t shy about showing off his hard-earned results. While he may not be emulating the Y2K style of his “Caught Stealing” co-star, he still manages to evoke a nostalgia for the vintage era with his sleek hairstyle and timeless leather jackets.
As a devoted cinephile, I can’t help but applaud Zoë Kravitz for revitalizing the spirit of the ‘noughties’ with her V-neck little black top. It’s a timeless testament to why that audacious outfit remains fashionable and continues to dominate today’s red carpets. Mark your calendars for August 29th, as you won’t want to miss Kravitz, the daring style icon, sharing the screen with Austin Butler in the upcoming theater release of Caught Stealing.
