Brad Pitt is among the most prominent figures in Hollywood, with numerous blockbuster movies under his belt that have earned substantial revenues globally. In recent times, he has graced screens in films such as “IF”, “Babylon”, and “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood”, for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2020. This year, one of his latest releases surpassed the success of a long-standing box office champion to claim the title of his highest-grossing film yet.
The movie titled F1: The Movie, an Apple Original Films sports drama, has been running on the big screen for just a few summer weeks and isn’t available to stream yet. However, it’s already showing signs of being a major success at the box office. Since its June 27 release, it’s raked in $545 million, surpassing the actor’s previous highest-grossing film, 2013’s World War Z, which made $540 million.
Brad Pitt’s five most successful films include “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” ($487 million), “Troy” ($483 million), and “Ocean’s Eleven” ($450 million). Despite his illustrious acting career, Pitt has yet to star in a film that grossed over $1 billion worldwide. His closest brush with this milestone was “Deadpool 2,” where he made a brief appearance, earning $786 million at the box office. The highest-grossing film led by Pitt is “Fury” ($542 million globally), while Marc Forster’s “World War Z,” featuring Pitt as a former UN investigator in search of a cure for a global zombie outbreak, made $202 million domestically and $329 million internationally.
Under the direction of Joseph Kosinski from a script by Ehren Kruger, the movie F1 features Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a Formula One (F1) racing driver who reenters the track after a 30-year hiatus following an accident. Racing alongside a promising new teammate, as the engines thunder, “Sonny discovers that in F1 racing, your teammate is your toughest rival – and the path to redemption isn’t one you can walk alone.
In the world of television, I’m fortunate to find myself joining a stellar cast. Damson Idris from “Snowfall,” Kerry Condon known for her work in “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Tobias Menzies who shines in “Outlander,” the legendary Javier Bardem from “No Country For Old Men,” Sarah Niles, a favorite on “Ted Lasso,” Kim Bodnia recognized for his role in “The Bridge,” and Samson Kayo, star of “Our Flag Means Death” – we’re all set to bring our talents together.
In the impressive filmography of Pitt, F1 stands out as a significant milestone and a career best. Not only does it top Pitt’s earning records, but it also holds the title of Apple Studios’ most successful theatrical release ever. Surpassing Ridley Scott’s historical epic Napoleon, which previously held this position with earnings of $221 million, and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon with its gross of $158 million, F1 has truly made a mark. Produced within a budget range of $200-$300 million, this movie currently ranks as the 8th highest-grossing film of 2025, with the Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2‘s staggering $1.8 billion box office collection leading the pack.
The speedy movie picture is among Brad Pitt’s top-rated films so far, outscoring even Fight Club with its impressive 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it slightly trails behind Top Gun: Maverick’s outstanding 99% audience score. Critics have given the film an 83% approval rating.
As a diehard fan, I’m thrilled to share that the movie is currently playing in theaters and is scheduled for an IMAX re-release on August 8th! Unfortunately, no streaming date has been announced yet, but it seems we can expect this masterpiece to grace our screens on Apple TV+ at some point down the line.
