In November 2025, when Zootopia 2 graces the movie screens, viewers can anticipate the return of some beloved characters alongside fresh animal personalities, injecting charm and trouble into the mix.
In the sequel of “Zootopia,” Nick will heed Judy’s advice and become a member of the ZPD. It feels like history repeating itself as Nick and Judy are now partners, resuming their parking duty. The duo find themselves in another critical situation when a puzzling reptile appears to be infiltrating Zootopia.
This year, Disney has officially revealed trailer snippets for the upcoming sequel, and it’s been confirmed that a total of 42 animal species will be featured in “Zootopia 2.” Among them, 17 are debuting within the theatrical series for the first time.
These are 17 New Species Joining Zootopia 2
Pit Viper – Gary De’Snake
Ke Huy Quan lends his voice to Gary De’Snake, a 33-foot-long snake character in Zootopia. He becomes the first serpent in the city’s roster, with an ominous reputation as a “creepy, slithery, highly venomous viper.” This blue viper sets Judy and Nick on an entirely new mystery, according to reports. Although details about Gary’s character are scarce, he is said to be chatty and incredibly optimistic.
Beaver – Nibbles Maplestick
In the upcoming sequel of Zootopia, comedian Fortune Feimster lends her voice to a character – a beaver who also happens to be an expert on reptiles. Dressed casually in a pink T-shirt, a dark green fisherman’s vest, and blue jeans, this will be her first appearance in the Zootopia series.
Quokka – Dr. Fuzzby
At Abbott Elementary, Quinta Brunson lends her voice to a new character, the lovable quokka, expanding the menagerie of animals in her role. In the chaotic ZPD, the quokka serves as a beacon of wisdom amidst the squabbling partners. As the soothing moderator of the “Partners in Crisis” group therapy sessions at Zootopia Police Department, Dr. Fuzzby exudes patience, tranquility, and empathy.
Stallion – Wind Dancer
In the wake of the tumultuous rule of the previous leader, it appears that the animal kingdom is looking forward to a new figure for the mayoral position in Zootopia 2. The horse, Mayor Wind Dancer, is stepping into office in Zootopia’s sequel. This elegant dancer-turned-politician boasts long golden hair and an attractive visage, complementing his charismatic demeanor.
Mouse – Clark
In the trailer for “Zootopia 2”, Clark joins a group therapy session led by Dr. Fuzzby, this time with his police partner Francine, the elephant, who has a fear of mice. Mice were prevalent in the original “Zootopia” film, when Judy the rabbit cop pursued a thief into their community, Little Rodentia. Notably, among them was Bianca, one of Fru Fru’s bridesmaids, who assisted her with wedding preparations.
Armadillo – Greg
In the next chapter of Zootopia, a fresh addition, an armadillo named Greg, makes his debut. He’s paired with a police officer, Marlon (a bear), in the therapy segment. This peculiar armadillo might be attending therapy with his partner due to his excessive grooming of Marlon, his bear colleague. It’s speculated that Greg could be connected to the landlady character from the original movie, who graciously welcomed Judy to her apartment. However, it hasn’t been confirmed yet if she will reappear in this sequel.
Elephant Seal
The elephant seal is a local trader in the neighborhood market in the Marshlands.
Deer – Officer Joel
In the sneak peek for Zootopia 2, we find a newcomer – a white-tailed deer named Officer Joel. He’s part of Dr. Fuzzby’s “Partners in Crisis” therapy group, alongside other animal characters. This deer is seeking to improve his bond with his partner, Karen, as the story unfolds.
Goat Police Officer – Bushron
As a passionate film enthusiast, I’m excitedly looking forward to the upcoming Disney animation comedy. What makes it even more intriguing is the inclusion of goat cops! Yes, you heard that right. And here’s an interesting twist: Jean Reno will lend his voice to a fresh character in this production. Can’t wait to see how it unfolds on the big screen!
Iguana
In the animated movie Zootopia 2, herbivorous lizards, commonly spotted in warm regions such as Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean, have made their presence known. This suggests that the upcoming film could be introducing even more species of reptiles to its diverse cast.
Anteater
The trendy anteater could very well be the chicest new member of Zootopia’s group, as yet unclear about his part in the upcoming film, but his fashion sense certainly stands out. He dons a red shirt with collar and a black coat, adorned with gold accessories including a gold tooth.
Walrus
In simpler terms, a large, mustached sea creature with a beard, wearing denim coveralls and a baseball cap, is leaving the Arctic and heading to Zootopia. In this new city, it’s transformed into a plumber.
In addition to Zootopia 2, these are the 2025 Disney movies you’ll want on your must-watch list.
Mole – Officer Paul
In the sequel of “Zootopia,” a character named Mole joins the cast. This character is part of the Zootopia Police Department, appearing in the trailer following an incident where Nick mistakenly triggers a soda explosion that soaks him from head to tail.
Naked Mole Rat
In the upcoming movie “Zootopia 2,” the enigmatic naked mole rat makes his entrance, showcasing his unique characteristics such as minimal fur, oversized teeth, and an impressive ability to fit into small crevices. The trailer presents him with a humorous and unusual demeanor. Paying homage to the original film, this new character is depicted wearing just sunglasses, potentially suggesting that he’s visiting the Mystic Springs Oasis.
Lynx – Linxleys
A lynx with a white muzzle becomes part of one of Zootopia’s powerful families. This lynx is seen wearing a dark green sweater and has light grey fur adorned with distinctive spots. It seems that Judy and Nick might be invited to a grand event hosted by the Linxley family in Zootopia 2. On June 13, 2025, a special preview of the movie was shown at the Annecy Film Festival.
Honey Badger – Officer Karen
In the animated film “Zootopia 2,” Officer Karen is portrayed as a tough-as-nails badger. This no-nonsense badger is a member of the Zootopia Police Department and often finds it difficult to understand social nuances, tending to react with strong emotions. Karen seeks assistance in her partnership struggles through attending Dr. Fuzzby’s “Partners in Crisis” group therapy sessions with her partner, Joel.
Wild Pig – Razorbacks
The Razorbacks are fierce wild pigs, and although they didn’t have many dialogue or screen appearances in the trailer, their powerful and intimidating demeanor alongside Zootopia’s Police Chief was evident. The preview trailer even depicted these boars being pulled on a sleigh by wolves.
24 Species Returning to Zootopia 2
Rabbit – Judy Hopps
Ginnifer Goodwin provided the voice for Judy, a determined bunny who refused to give up on her aspirations. Her dream was to become a bunny police officer, even in the face of opposition from her parents and the town’s notorious bully, Gideon Grey. Thanks to the Zootopia Mammal Inclusion Initiative, Judy graduated at the top of her class from the Zootopia Police Academy, making history as the first rabbit officer.
Zootopia 2 promises more excitement as the rabbit and her reformed partner chase something creepy.
Red Fox – Nick Wilde
Originally, Nick was a trickster but eventually became a city savior. Previously perceived as shady, the red fox will now be viewed differently after joining the ZPD. The latest preview hints at some challenges for him and his partner Judy in their new roles. It remains to be seen how effectively he can blend his streetwise tactics and controversial history with police work.
Cape Buffalo – Chief Bogo
The head of the police department, who is voiced by Idris Elba and resembles a cape buffalo, was the first in ZPD to deliver Judy her initial setback upon joining the force. Rather than assigning her one of the 14 intriguing missing animal cases, she was instead tasked with writing a hundred parking tickets for her opening assignment.
In this instance, the Cape Buffalo may have earned a bit more esteem from Judy Hopps. Instead, he directs Judy Hopps and Nick towards the “Crisis Partnership” therapy sessions and tasks them with locating the reptile.
Cheetah – Officer Benjamin Clawhauser
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’d rephrase it as follows:
I, a die-hard movie fan, would describe Officer Benjamin Clawhauser as a charming cheetah, voiced by Nate Torrence, who works at the ZPD’s front desk. Known for his infectious enthusiasm and love for doughnuts, he was a pillar of support and assistance to our first bunny cop. His reflective jacket and wands suggest that this sassy predator might have stepped up his game, perhaps in the realm of traffic control.
Fennec Fox – Finnick
In the upcoming sequel, Zootopia 2, we can expect Finnick to make an appearance once more. Interestingly, his former accomplice has undergone a change and now serves in law enforcement, potentially introducing fresh plot twists for Finnick’s character. The Fennec Fox was brought to life by the late Tom Lister in the original film.
Gazelle – Gazelle
In this rephrased version, the gazelle stood out as the most recognized member within the group, with Mayor Leodore Lionheart and Police Chief Bogo being among the other prominent figures. It’s worth noting that Shakira’s Gazelle was an advocate for animal rights.
By making use of simpler language and a more conversational tone, this version aims to improve readability while maintaining the original meaning.
Lion – Leodore Lionheart
In the sequel of Zootopia, we find a character who’s a lion entertainer. However, it remains undetermined whether the previous mayor of Zootopia, Leodore Lionheart, has changed professions.
As mayor, Lionheart was a true politician, often incongruous with his public image. For instance, his behavior towards his assistant and his propensity to conceal the truth exemplify this inconsistency. The charismatic lion, voiced by J.K. Simmons, has always been drawn to the limelight.
Arctic Shrew – Mr. Big
In the real world, shrew-like creatures are native to Canada and the northern U.S. states. But in the animated city of Zootopia, the Arctic Shrew takes on a different role – that of a powerful crime boss, with a hint of the Godfather character. Luckily for our protagonist Judy, she played a part in rescuing Fru Fru from a tricky donut predicament, and he proved to be an invaluable ally afterward.
Sheep – Dawn Bellwether
In the animated film Zootopia, the shocking revelation was that the former assistant mayor became the mayor, only to later emerge as the main adversary. She falsely accused Leodore Lionheart and employed the night howler to induce chaos among the animals, using her undervalued and underestimated status to her advantage. While appearing meek and mild-mannered as an assistant major, she secretly orchestrated her malicious schemes unnoticed by others.
Yak – Yax
At Mystic Springs Oasis, Yax – a tranquil and easy-going yak – was the first encounter for Judy and Nick in their quest to find Mr. Otterton. The receptionist at the naturalist club was cooperative, and even the relaxed yak, along with all other club inhabitants, provided quite an unexpected surprise for Judy (and perhaps the viewers too). Yax’s voice was lent by Tommy Chong.
Weasel – Duke Weaselton
In simpler terms, Alan Tudyk voices Duke Weaselton, a petty criminal in the city of Zootopia who’s often involved in shady dealings such as illegal movie distribution and petty theft. His paths frequently cross with detective Judy Hopps, finding himself ensnared in many of her investigations.
Pig – The Frantic Pig
In the animated movie Zootopia, a pig character showed up, which served as a reminder to Judy that she was a genuine police officer. This prompted her to pursue those responsible for robbing the flower shop, Flora and Fauna. Josh Dallas provided the panicked voice of this pig, and it’s important to note that this pig is a common household pet.
Rhinoceros – Officer McHorn
In the ZPD, Officer McHorn is known for his quiet strength. Although he spoke sparingly in the initial movie, his portrayal as a formidable, imposing officer was undeniably noticeable. He’s one of the team’s powerhouses and is often paired with Chief Bogo. The intriguing missing persons case was entrusted to him, making him a prominent figure in the police force.
In the latest development, a white rhino appears to have teamed up with three others from his kind, as they’re seen pursuing a group of outlaws within the city. According to the preview trailer, this is what we can expect.
Sloth – Flash
In a humorous twist, Nick found his connection at the DMV to be a Three-toed sloth named Flash. The irony was palpable as the DMV staff were all slow-moving sloths themselves. However, in the post-credit scene of Zootopia, Flash proved his exceptional driving skills, putting any doubts about his speed to rest.
Nick discovered that Flash, a Three-toed sloth, was his connection at the DMV. It was ironic since the DMV staff were all slow-moving sloths. But in the post-credit scene of Zootopia, Flash demonstrated remarkable driving skills, silencing any questions about his speed.
Horse – Wind Dancer
In the aftermath of the tumultuous rule of the former leader in Zootopia, it appears that the animal community is looking towards a different group for the mayoral position. This time around, Mayor Wind Dancer will be leading in Zootopia 2. Known for her grace and dance background, as well as her long golden hair and attractive features, the new mayor, The Horse, also boasts an appealing personality.
Keep an eye out, as Disney CEO Bob Iger believes these could be the films that define the year!
Grizzly Bear – Marlon Grizzby
As a movie buff, I can’t wait to see more of that grizzly bear from Zootopia! In the sequel, he’s joining the Partners in Crisis therapy group, and it seems like there’s tension between him and his armadillo partner, Greg. Greg just can’t stop grooming him, which is causing a bit of a ruckus!
Elephant Officer – Pennington
Initially, Francine made an entrance in the police station on Judy Hopps’ first day as a cop. Yet, life could be more challenging for this elephant, given she’s teamed up with a mouse named Clark, despite her phobia towards rodents.
In a nutshell, Nangi – the yoga-teaching elephant from India – garnered more on-screen presence than other elephants in the movie, and popped up frequently throughout it. Interestingly, the obnoxious proprietor of Jumbeaux Café, Jerry Jumbeaux Jr., was portrayed by John DiMaggio, and he too is referred to as Jerry Jumbeaux Jr. This way, we maintain clarity without losing the natural flow of conversation.
hippopotamuses – Officer Higgins
In the initial scene, a handful of hippos make an appearance, set to reappear in the following act. One noteworthy character is Officer Higgins, the hippo policeman who has a fondness for both donuts and doughnuts. He belongs to the ZPD and was among the large creatures that established an imposing presence in the bullpen during Judy’s first day on the job.
Furthermore, the brief sneak peek of the trailer indicates that a group of four formidable hippos are pursuing Judy, Nick, and Gary De’Snake. This implies that these animals may play a more significant part in the forthcoming Disney film.
Tiger – Gazelle’s Dancers
In Zootopia 2, a troop of tigers is set to perform as backup dancers for Gazelle, much to the delight of Chief Bogo. Interestingly enough, one of the characters who went missing in the original story was a tiger as well.
Zebra
In the initial film, zebras made cameo appearances, acting as journalists and participants in a yoga session led by Nangi within the urban health spa area. In the forthcoming movie, they’ll be seen among the crowd as partygoers, getting swept up in the ensuing commotion.
Disney has prepped the world for “Zootopia 2” by introducing the Zootopia universe right here, take a look at all we know about Disney’s pioneering Zootopia Attraction instead.
Polar Bear – Koslov
In a simpler and more conversational style: Koslov, often referred to as Mr. Big’s right-hand bear, is one of the lesser characters in the movie Zootopia. He belongs to the Tundratown mafia and is Mr. Big’s closest associate and enforcer. Polar bears like Koslov were present in Zootopia, with Major Friedkin being a notable figure as Judy Hopps’ trainer at the Zootopia Police Academy. Additionally, some polar bears served as Mr. Big’s personal guards in the film.
Anticipation for the movie “Avatar: Fire and Ash” is running high, given the positive initial responses it’s receiving online.
Giraffe – Jeremy
In the initial Zootopia film, it was Jeremy, the majestic male giraffe, who became the star of an advertisement resembling Uber. Apart from Jeremy, other giraffes made appearances throughout the movie, particularly at a naturalist club where they were depicted practicing yoga alongside Nungi in various scenes.
Wolf
In the initial part of the story, several wolves took on roles such as policemen, journalists, and security personnel within the Cliffside Asylum. It was challenging for them to suppress their instinctive wolfish yowls.
In the upcoming movie Zootopia 2, a new type of wolf, possibly a red wolf, is introduced as part of the pack, according to the preview.
Moose – Peter Moosebridge
In the animated film, “Zootopia,” Peter Moosebridge, a male moose, briefly appeared on screen as a newscaster for ZNN. During a peaceful rally led by Gazelle, he was joined by Fabienne Growley, a female snow leopard, to report the event together.
