Everyone’s excited for Zootopia 2, which is coming out this Thanksgiving! Critics are already saying it’s hilarious, and after a nine-year wait, it’s expected to be a huge hit in theaters. Early reviews suggest fans are going to love it.
Critics are loving Zootopia 2, giving it a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 78 reviews. Many say the sequel lives up to the high standards of the first Zootopia film from 2016. Nell Minow of RogerEbert.com called it “just as exciting, heartwarming, and imaginative as the original, and maybe even funnier.” Frank Scheck from The Hollywood Reporter agreed, saying the movie was well worth the wait and delivers with stunning animation, clever humor, and genuine emotional moments.
As a film fan, I thought it was really interesting to read how critics approached Zootopia 2. Variety pointed out that while it’s a funny, exciting movie – and a bit of a crime film throwback – what really makes it special are the important lessons it subtly teaches. And Eric Goldman over at MovieWeb even argued that Zootopia 2 is a better sequel than a lot of Disney’s other follow-ups to their biggest hits.
Recent Disney sequels like Ralph Breaks the Internet, Frozen 2, and Moana 2 haven’t quite lived up to the magic of the originals. However, Zootopia 2 is a standout success. It delivers everything you’d want in a sequel – building on the beloved characters and world of the first film while also offering a fresh and engaging story. Plus, it’s genuinely fun and touching.
