Over the weekend, Indonesia’s game rating system accidentally revealed significant spoilers for several unreleased games. The biggest leak concerned IO Interactive’s new James Bond game, 007: First Light. VideoGamesChronicle reported that a video showing direct gameplay footage appeared online, and it contains major spoilers, including how the game ends.
Man, it looks like a bunch of unreleased game footage leaked! I’ve seen videos popping up showing pretty much the whole story of 007: First Light, and it seems Echoes of Aincrad got hit with the same thing. Apparently, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse were also part of the leak, but I haven’t seen those videos showing up yet. It’s a bummer when stuff like this happens, especially if you were excited for these games!
Game developers and publishers usually send videos to ratings boards to get an age rating before a game is released. These videos are normally kept secret to avoid spoilers, but unfortunately, some have leaked online. This means players excited about these games should be cautious about what they see on social media.
The upcoming game, 007: First Light, is planned for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. While the versions for other platforms will launch on May 27th, IO Interactive has delayed the Switch 2 release until sometime this summer. The company stated they want to ensure the game offers a great experience on all systems.
As a big fan, I’ve been following the development of the new James Bond game, 007: First Light, and I’m really excited about how IO Interactive is approaching it. They’ve said they want it to be an origin story, and more importantly, they want you to feel like Bond. They’re aiming for a level of freedom where you can make your own choices and improvise, but it still feels authentic to the character. In a recent video, the lead writer, Michael Vogt, explained that unlike their Hitman games, where you can do almost anything, Bond is an established character. You can’t have him acting wildly out of character – it just wouldn’t feel right!
Unlike games like Hitman, IO Interactive wants 007: First Light to be about adapting to situations on the fly. The developers explained that players can choose to play as a tough fighter, a smooth talker, or a stealthy operative using gadgets – all are viable options. This focus on choice aims to make players feel resourceful and think like a true 00 agent, all while staying true to the Bond character.
