However, these gadgets are distinctly Bond-like – they wouldn’t feel right in the hands of anyone else, even another of IO Interactive’s famous assassins. Players will need to carefully manage their resources, as they can equip up to four gadgets per loadout. This focus on varied tools and resource management suggests the game encourages multiple playstyles. These aren’t simple, unlimited-use items, but actual tools that genuinely impact how you play. Now, let’s take a closer look at each gadget that’s been revealed so far.
The Omega Seamaster watch, known as the Q-Watch, is central to Bond’s equipment and abilities. Its display connects to his heads-up display, appearing in the lower left corner. A compass surrounds the interface, showing Bond the direction to his next goal. Inside the watch face, you’ll find warnings about restricted areas, as well as indicators for battery and chemical charge. These power sources are crucial, as all of Bond’s gadgets use either battery or chemical energy to function.
Each mission requires careful planning of your gear. You’ll need to manage how quickly your gadgets use power, and find ways to recharge – by collecting items, turning found objects into energy, or taking resources from defeated enemies. This creates a constant choice: do you focus on fast, powerful attacks, or a slower, stealthier approach?
The Q-Watch’s main feature is its laser, which has several uses. It can damage the environment or temporarily blind enemies. In the game, the laser is demonstrated by cutting a chandelier and stunning a guard, allowing Bond to easily subdue him.

The Q-Watch is a portable hacking tool powered by a battery. It’s mainly used to create diversions by remotely controlling electrical devices, but it can also disable security cameras and unlock doors. While remotely triggering devices might not seem like something from the future, the Q-Watch’s core technology, the Q-Lens, is heavily inspired by science fiction and cyberpunk. The Q-Lens works as an environmental scanner, displaying surroundings with a digital blue outline. It finds devices that can be hacked and even lets you see enemies through walls or smoke.

This hints that the Q-Watch might let Bond hack into various weapons, machines, and vehicles to create chaos, but it’s not yet clear if this will be a major feature of the game. Many people have talked about how 007 First Light lets you play the game in different ways. You can go in shooting, sneak around, or mix both approaches. If you prefer stealth, the game provides several helpful gadgets. For example, the Poison Dart Phone fires a dart with a chemical that makes enemies violently ill, temporarily taking them out of action. This is great for silently removing guards, and also allows Bond to discreetly steal keycards from their pockets while they’re incapacitated.
Bond’s Modified Earbuds aren’t just for talking to headquarters; they also let him secretly listen in on conversations to gather important intel without being seen. There are reports that they can even emit a bright flash of light, similar to another gadget’s laser function, but it’s unclear if this is accurate. Either way, combined with the Poison Dart Phone, these tools emphasize Bond’s role as a strategist and manipulator, rather than someone who relies on pure strength.

He also carries some weapons for direct combat. The Smoke Pods are similar to items you might recognize from other games – they create a thick fog, letting you move around easily, defeat confused enemies, or sneak past unnoticed. They’re also useful for escaping when you’re outnumbered. Another tool is the Flash Mine, a throwable bomb that you can detonate remotely. Both the Smoke Pods and Flash Mines offer ways to either get out of trouble or create chaos.
The gameplay footage of 007 First Light doesn’t explain every item, and some of the most interesting gadgets haven’t been officially described. A Leica camera stands out as potentially being a “Shockwave Camera.” We see Bond carrying it during a stealth mission, but its purpose isn’t shown. The name hints that it might be used to disorient or control groups of enemies, giving Bond a new way to handle crowds.
Just as interesting is a handgun that uses cartridges that light up. It’s unclear if this indicates special bullets, a tracking system, or is just for show. Then there are Bond’s more practical tools – his lighter and pen. While easily missed, the lighter was already used to start a fire as a distraction during the recent mission. It appears even with everyday items, players will have many opportunities to think on their feet and improvise.
In the game 007 First Light, Bond relies heavily on Q-Branch for his gadgets, and the game explores his close working relationship with Q. Q isn’t just someone who hands Bond equipment; he acts as a mentor, helping Bond develop and improve his tools – and likely advance his career at MI6. With the help of a new character, Dr. Tan, gadgets are designed to be customizable, letting players combine and upgrade them to fit their play style.
No Bond movie is complete without amazing cars, and First Light delivers! The game features a diverse collection, ranging from the futuristic Aston Martin Valhalla to the iconic yellow 1970 Aston Martin DBS, briefly shown in gameplay footage. Players can also drive a more recent Aston Martin DBS, as well as a Jaguar XJ that Bond uses while working undercover as a chauffeur.
Bond’s cars are usually packed with gadgets, and while we don’t know all the details yet, the game promises to continue that tradition. We got a quick look at one possibility: a Triumph dirt bike equipped with a flamethrowing rocket launcher. Bond stories have always combined vehicles and weapons, so fans are expecting some impressive tech in the game.
