007 First Light Pre-Load is Only Available on PS5 Ahead of Launch

With the early access release of 007 First Light approaching for those who own the Deluxe Edition, many players expected to be able to pre-load the game. However, IO Interactive confirmed on Reddit, through player engagement specialist Artjom Schmatkow, that pre-loading won’t be available – at least on Steam and Xbox.

The game will be available to download on Steam and Xbox as soon as it officially launches. However, only PlayStation 5 players will be able to download the game beforehand, as pre-loading is required on that platform. The team apologized for the unclear messaging surrounding this.

Steam and Xbox likely don’t allow pre-loading of games to prevent leaks. We’ve seen leaks happen with PC games like Subnautica 2 and Directive 8020 after pre-loading. For Xbox, the Play Anywhere feature—which lets you play games on both console and PC—could increase the risk of leaks for supported titles like First Light. While it’s not certain if this would happen, IO Interactive seems unwilling to take any chances.

After physical copies of the game appeared online and early gameplay footage surfaced, the studio released the first 13 minutes. Now, with the worldwide launch on May 27th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, players will finally be able to experience everything 007 First Light has to offer, and more.
