For years, everyone’s been wondering who should be the next James Bond after Daniel Craig. Now, an actor from the 007 video game ‘First Light’ believes the perfect candidate is already known to Amazon and MGM.
Lennie James, who played a mentor to James Bond in the game 007 First Light, clearly understands what it takes to be a successful MI6 agent.
At the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards, Lennie James presented Jennifer English with the award for best performer, recognizing her work as Maelle in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Before the ceremony, the TopMob Gaming team interviewed James on the red carpet, and the conversation turned to the James Bond franchise. James believes Patrick Gibson, the young actor playing Bond, deserves serious consideration, stating that those making the decisions would be foolish not to consider him.

James made a bold claim, confidently stating that Gibson is excellent as Bond in their project and believes he’s a strong contender for the official Bond role they’re currently casting for.
I’m really hoping that since Lenny Kravitz played the villain in the old 007 game First Light, we might actually see him show up in a proper James Bond movie someday. It’d be awesome!
Even if Mel Gibson isn’t cast in the upcoming James Bond films, it looks like he may continue voicing the character in video games for some time. The developers of 007: First Light, IO Interactive, have hinted at future installments featuring his portrayal of Bond. According to senior producer Theuns Smit, creating this game felt natural after their work on Hitman, suggesting they’re eager to continue working with Gibson as 007.
Now that Lana Del Rey has recorded a theme song for a James Bond film – and the composer David Arnold felt she was ideal for the role – it would be surprising if this new project only lasted for one installment. Hopefully, the game is both popular with critics and sells well, allowing the creators to continue making Bond games for years to come.

Unfortunately, Nintendo fans will have to wait until summer to play as Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the young James Bond in ‘007 First Light,’ as the game’s Switch 2 release has been postponed.
If IO Interactive makes more games after 007 First Light, they could benefit from drawing inspiration from the original James Bond novels, even though the game isn’t considered part of the official Bond storyline.
