007 First Light Supports Upgraded PSSR on PS5 Pro, IOI Touts “Meaningful Jump in Image Quality”

With the release of 007 First Light getting closer, IO Interactive has shared some new information for players with a PlayStation 5 Pro. The game is confirmed to run at a smooth 60 frames per second, as shown in an updated gameplay video, and will also launch with improved support for PSSR technology.

Similar to games like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Resident Evil Requiem, Upgraded PSSR enhances how moving objects appear on screen. It’s particularly noticeable with details like plants, buildings, and hair, reducing distracting flickering. In First Light, this means objects stay clear and stable even when Bond moves quickly through the game world.

According to technical director Henrik Schlichter, the improved PSSR technology significantly boosted image quality in all areas – resulting in clearer, more stable, and sharper visuals, especially with intricate details. He stated this is a definite improvement for players using the PS5 Pro. Remarkably, IOI’s engineers were able to implement the upgrade with minimal effort, completing the integration in just one day without needing to adjust settings for each scene.

According to lead render engineer Jon Rocatis, the team was able to implement the improved PSSR technology in just one day and immediately saw positive results. He noted that it performed consistently well throughout the entire game without needing any adjustments or specific fixes for individual scenes – a rare achievement when integrating new technology.

The game developer hasn’t revealed the exact resolution for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions yet, but they have confirmed that AMD FSR 3.1.5 will be used to enhance the graphics. We’ll find out how well it works when 007 First Light is released on May 27th.
