Cartoon Network is having a successful run, especially with the return of popular characters like Mordecai and Rigby in the new series, Regular Show: The Lost Tapes. Now, the network is building on that success with another revival this summer: Adventure Time. This new series will explore Finn and Jake’s earlier adventures, before the events of the original show. While many of the original voice actors are returning, one major character will be portrayed differently this time around.
The new series, Adventure Time: Side Quests, revisits Finn and Jake’s early adventures with each episode telling a complete, standalone story. While Jeremy Shada has always voiced Finn, Sasha Knight will be taking on the role for this revival to reflect a younger version of the character. Knight is an experienced voice actor, with credits in Kingdom Hearts III, My Little Pony, Eureka!, and The Santa Clauses. Although the reason for the change hasn’t been officially announced, it makes sense given the show will focus on Finn as a child.
Adventure Time’s Big Comeback

It’s good news for fans of Adventure Time: most of the original voice actors are returning for the new series, Side Quests. John DiMaggio will be back as Jake the Dog, Tom Kenny as the Ice King, Hynden Welch as Princess Bubblegum, Olivia Olsen as Marceline the Vampire Queen, and Niki Yang as BMO. Interestingly, even though there was a bit of a situation with Finn, Jeremy Shada might not be completely gone. The spin-off, Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, is bringing an older version of Finn into the story, and Shada is reprising his role!
If you didn’t hear, the new Adventure Time: Side Quests series is coming to Disney+ and Hulu on June 29th. This is a bit unexpected, since previous Adventure Time content usually appeared on HBO Max. Hulu has been doing well with revived Cartoon Network shows lately – last year’s The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball was a huge success. In fact, Gumball‘s return was even more popular than the revival of King of the Hill. Now, it will be interesting to see if Finn and Jake’s new series can achieve the same level of popularity next month.
