007 First Light Tech Analysis Reveals Just How Far Ahead PS5 Pro Is

Now that the game is available through a limited early access period, Digital Foundry has released a detailed technical analysis of 007 First Light, starting with the standard PlayStation 5 and the PS5 Pro.

You can definitely enjoy playing 007 First Light on the original system, as both Performance and Quality modes offer a good experience. But if you’re looking for a significantly better visual and performance boost, the PS5 Pro is the way to go.

When running on the standard PlayStation 5, the game achieves 60 frames per second in Performance Mode and 30fps in Quality Mode. However, reviewers found that the standard PS5 version suffers from low image quality – it renders at only 720p in Performance Mode and 1080p in Quality Mode.

The game uses FSR 3.1.5, which creates a specific look with some drawbacks. You might notice flickering when the image is still, and a blocky, unnatural appearance when things move. This is particularly noticeable with details like leaves and trees, which can appear jagged when the camera pans across the screen.

We’re currently reviewing the PS5 in Performance Mode on a standard model. Our reviewer, Stephen, noted that the graphics sometimes appear a little blurry and there are occasional, though not frequent, dips in the frame rate.

According to Digital Foundry, it’s on the PS5 Pro where 007 First Light truly shines.

The PS5 Pro runs games in the same Quality Mode as the standard PS5, but with a smoother 60 frames per second. Plus, the new PSSR 2 technology greatly improves how the game looks. According to one report, the PS5 Pro delivers a noticeably clearer and sharper image thanks to PSSR, which is a big step up from the image scaling on the original PS5.

During our testing of the PS5 Pro, we only encountered one crash. Otherwise, the game ran smoothly and looked great.

The recent update to the image upscaling feature is making a significant difference in how PS5 games look, finally justifying the higher price of the PS5 Pro as a worthwhile upgrade over the original PS5 – assuming you’re willing to pay the premium.
