The year 2026 began with a strong start for anime fans, as January brought a fresh batch of series for the Winter season. While many anime shows premiere each season – often with new episodes released weekly on platforms like Crunchyroll – anime films usually take longer to become available online after their theatrical release. Fortunately, Netflix offers a fantastic selection of anime, with many shows and movies exclusive to the service. Every month, Netflix expands its library with both brand new original series and beloved classics.
Rather than releasing a large batch of new content each season, the streaming service focuses on a smaller selection. With February approaching, here’s a curated list of ten anime – both series and movies – perfect for watching this month.
10) Gintama

I was so excited when this classic anime finally hit Netflix in January 2026 – it’s been over 20 years since it first came out! It’s based on the fantastic manga by Hideaki Sorachi that originally appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump. Over the years, they released several seasons and movies, and honestly, it’s still just as funny as ever! I, and so many other fans, can’t get enough of Gintoki Sakata and his friends and all their crazy, everyday adventures.
9) Magic Knight: Rayearth

Netflix added another popular series to its growing fantasy collection this January. Originally released in 1994, this well-loved story follows three high school girls who unexpectedly meet and are then transported to a different world after hearing a desperate plea for help. They discover they are Magic Knights and must train their abilities to save the world.
8) Love Through a Prism

This new anime is a romantic story written by Yoko Kamio, a famous manga artist known for popular series like Boys Over Flowers, Cat Street, and Matsuri Special. The story takes place in the 1990s and centers around Lili Ichijouin, who travels from Japan to London to attend the prestigious Saint Thomas Art Academy and pursue her dream of becoming an artist. Her parents have challenged her to stay at the top of her class, or she must return home. While adjusting to life in a new country, she meets Kit Church, a talented student with a mysterious past.
7) Cosmic Princess Kaguya!

This new movie offers a fresh take on the classic Japanese story, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. It marks the first time Shingo Yamashita – known for directing the exciting opening scenes of anime hits like Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 and Chainsaw Man – has directed a full film. The story centers around two girls who connect through music and find themselves performing in the fantastical virtual world of Tsukuyomi.
6) 100 Meters

The anime film, based on the popular manga by Uoto, was first released in Japanese cinemas in September 2025 and quickly became a huge success on Netflix. It tells the story of Togashi, a naturally gifted runner who has always easily won 100-meter races. His life changes when he meets Komiya, a new student who shares his love for running. Recognizing Komiya’s potential, Togashi takes him on as a protégé. Years later, after finishing school, the two find themselves competing against each other as they both strive to achieve their dreams.
5) Violet Evergarden

Violet Evergarden is an animated series celebrated for its stunning visuals and deeply moving story. It centers on Violet, a young woman who grew up as a soldier, emotionally distanced from others due to her experiences in war. After the conflict ends and she’s separated from her commander, Violet seeks to understand human feelings by becoming an Auto Memory Doll – someone who writes letters for others. But she soon discovers that exploring the joys and sorrows of people’s lives, and the intricacies of their emotions, is a far more challenging journey than she expected.
4) The Summer Hikaru Died

The highly anticipated horror anime of 2025 is adapted from the award-winning manga of the same name. It’s set in a quiet village that’s shaken up when Hikaru Indo goes missing for a week. When he returns, everything seems normal, but his close friend Yoshiki Tsujinaka quickly realizes something is terribly wrong – this isn’t the Hikaru he knows. Yoshiki soon discovers the horrifying truth: his friend died during his disappearance, and a mysterious being has taken his place. As Yoshiki mourns his loss, a series of bizarre events plunges the village into chaos.
3) Orb: On the Movements of the Earth

The popular series Madhouse is adapted from an award-winning manga by the creator of 100 Meters. Set in 15th-century Europe, the story takes place during a time when the Church held significant power and harshly suppressed scientific and astronomical inquiry, labeling it as heresy punishable by death. Amidst this turbulent period, Rafal, a gifted 12-year-old, was studying theology – the most respected field of study at the time – until he met an enigmatic scholar. Through this encounter, Rafal’s curiosity about astronomy sparked, leading him to explore the forbidden subject and confront the dangerous consequences of challenging established beliefs.
2) Blue Period

This series follows Yatora Yaguchi, a high school student who feels lost and lacks direction. Everything changes when he’s inspired by the colorful scenery of Shibuya and starts painting, hoping to express himself through art. He sets a challenging goal: to get into Tokyo University of the Arts, a prestigious school with a very low acceptance rate. As he begins his artistic journey, Yatora quickly realizes how much he needs to learn and improve before the entrance exam, putting him in a race against time.
1) Haikyu!!

Many fans consider this sports drama a classic, feel-good show. It follows Shoyo Hinata, a determined young boy who dreams of becoming as great as the legendary volleyball player known as the “Little Giant.” Shoyo’s first middle school tournament doesn’t go as planned when he’s defeated by the talented Tobio Kageyama. Determined to improve, Shoyo joins Karasuno High, the school the Little Giant attended. To his surprise, he finds Tobio there as well, and the two rivals must learn to cooperate if they want to achieve their goal of competing in the national championships.
