It’s safe to say Dan Mora is one of DC Comics’ most exciting artists today. He’s been creating fantastic artwork for DC titles like Superman, Justice League Unlimited, and Batman/Superman: World’s Finest for about ten years. Mora has quickly become a favorite with fans, who really appreciate his dynamic and energetic style. Personally, whenever I see his name attached to a DC comic, it immediately catches my attention, even if it’s not a series I normally follow.
It’s impressive to consider just how many covers Mora has created! Over the years he’s worked with DC Comics, he’s produced a huge number of both main covers and variant editions. Choosing just a few of his best pieces is tough, but some really stand out – like his cover for Absolute Power #3. This list takes a look at all of Mora’s DC covers, both standard and variants, to highlight 10 of his very best artworks.
10. Titans #1 (Variant)

As a big fan of the Titans, I have to say DC really nailed it with this variant cover! It perfectly captures the team dynamic – Nightwing leading the charge with his closest friends. The artist, Mora, did an incredible job showing the connection and affection these heroes have for each other, while still making them look powerful and heroic (I especially love seeing Beast Boy transforming!). It reminds me a lot of those classic New 52 Justice League covers, but with Mora’s own unique style. Honestly, it’s just a fantastic cover and a great representation of the team.
9. Immortal Legend Batman #1

One of the best things about Elseworlds stories is that they allow artists to be creative and try new things. Dan Mora, who worked on Immortal Legend Batman, clearly put a lot of effort into this cover to make it stand out. The Batman of this alternate world is shown in a dynamic pose, wearing a costume inspired by Japanese Tokusatsu heroes. It’s a striking and attention-grabbing image that definitely sparks interest. Even if you don’t typically enjoy stories inspired by sentai teams, you can appreciate the skill Mora demonstrates in this cover’s design.
8. DC/Marvel: Batman/Deadpool #1 (Reprint)

It’s no surprise that the Marvel and DC crossover comics from last year were instant sell-outs—putting Batman and Deadpool together was always going to be a hit. The initial cover for DC/Marvel: Batman/Deadpool featured art by Mora, and he also created the cover for the reprint. This new cover showcases Deadbat, a unique character created for the story by Mora and Morrison, combining elements of both Batman and Deadpool. It’s a straightforward image of Deadbat with a sword against a starry backdrop, but it’s a really striking and memorable reprint cover.
7. DC K.O. #2 (Variant)

Opinions on the DC K.O. series are mixed, but the artwork, especially the covers, was consistently praised. Dan Mora created some really engaging covers that showed the shrinking number of competitors as the tournament progressed. My personal favorite was his variant cover for DC K.O. #2, which featured the ‘Sweet Sixteen’ fighters – those who participated in All-Fight Month. It’s the small details that make it so enjoyable, like Harley Quinn pulling a funny face in the corner.
6. Action Comics #1051

As a Superman enthusiast, I love covers that showcase the hero and his extended family. Artist Nicola Mora created the main cover for Action Comics #1051, featuring Superman at the forefront, surrounded by classic characters like Superboy, Supergirl, Jon Kent, Steel, Super-Man, and the Super-Twins. It wasn’t just a visually appealing cover, but also a clever way to signal that Action Comics was becoming an anthology series focused on the supporting characters in Superman’s world. I particularly enjoyed that period of Action Comics, and seeing Mora’s cover brings back fond memories.
5. Absolute Power #3

I was particularly impressed with Dan Mora’s artwork on Absolute Power. While all the covers and interior art were excellent, Absolute Power #3 really stood out. It powerfully depicts a battered and bleeding Batman, using Batarangs that reflect his adversaries – Zur-En-Arrh, the Brainiac Queen, and Task Force VII. The cover perfectly captures the intense action and suspense of the series. Knowing Batman ultimately prevails, seeing him pushed to his limits is incredibly engaging.
4. Absolute Batman #1 (Variant)

Anyone familiar with Absolute Batman knows it’s been released in many different editions and with numerous exclusive covers – enough to make a very long comic book! Given how popular the Absolute series has been, it’s not surprising that Mora created covers for some of its key titles. However, I am impressed by how effectively Mora portrays the sheer scale and power of Absolute Batman. The artwork is a bit more artistic than the regular series, but Mora does a fantastic job capturing the energy of this younger, more intense version of Batman.
3. Superman Unlimited #1 (Variant)

Last year was an exciting time for Superman fans! With a fresh reboot led by DCU’s James Gunn, DC celebrated with ‘Summer of Superman,’ introducing new comics like Superman Unlimited. Artist Dan Mora created a special cover honoring the reboot and featuring both Gunn and the new actor playing Superman, David Corenswet. It’s wonderful to see Mora use his art to support the work of other creatives bringing Superman to life.
2. Action Comics #1 (Reprint)

Regarding the reboot, artist Mora revisited a classic Superman image that comic fans will immediately recognize. DC previously released a replica of Action Comics #1 – Superman’s very first appearance – for Superman Day. Mora recreated the original cover, depicting David Corenswet as Superman lifting and throwing a car into a hillside. While it might not have the same impact as the original when it first came out, it’s a great way for Mora to pay tribute to Superman’s legacy with such a well-executed cover.
1. Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #50/Bizarro: Year None #1 (Variants)

Okay, I’ll admit it, this might be a bit of a playful indulgence, but these two comic book covers together are just amazing. The Batman/Superman: World’s Finest series has been doing these fun celebrity variant covers, and issue #50 featured the hilarious “Weird Al” Yankovic. But what really cracked me up was a variant cover Mora did around the same time for Bizarro: Year None #1. It’s basically a ‘Bizarro’ world version of the World’s Finest cover – Batman, Superman, and even Weird Al are all replaced with their twisted doppelgangers! I have no idea who came up with this idea, but seeing these two covers next to each other is pure genius.
