2025 was a fantastic year for television! Over the past twelve months, shows of all kinds have captivated audiences worldwide and even become part of pop culture. We previously highlighted some of the year’s best shows earlier in the year, and now, as 2025 comes to an end, we’re taking another look at the most impressive small-screen releases.
2025 offered a fantastic range of TV shows, from funny comedies to intense dramas, and everything in between. Picking the ‘best’ is always difficult and depends on personal taste, but a few shows really stood out. These titles made a significant impact and are among the most memorable of the year.
10) Daredevil: Born Again

As a huge Marvel fan, I was really looking forward to Daredevil: Born Again, and it definitely delivered as one of the most thrilling releases of 2025. It was so great to see Charlie Cox back as Matt Murdock, stepping into the Daredevil suit again. He’s pulled back into action after something deeply personal happens, and naturally, that means facing off against Wilson Fisk, his old enemy. What I especially loved is that Born Again officially brought Daredevil into the main MCU storyline, and it felt like everything from the previous series now officially fits in!
Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again delivered exactly what fans hoped for. The show successfully integrated Daredevil into the Marvel Cinematic Universe while maintaining the gritty, intense, and action-packed feel of the original Netflix series. With thrilling suspense and impressive fight scenes, it quickly became a standout action show of 2025.
9) Murderbot

Murderbot is a 2025 sci-fi series that quietly found success despite not being a major hit. The show stars Alexander Skarsgård as the titular character – a security robot built from both mechanical parts and human tissue – who develops self-awareness and starts making his own decisions. This action-comedy premiered in May 2025 and was renewed for a second season just two months later.
It’s rare for a show to successfully combine humor, action, and science fiction, but Murderbot pulls it off. What makes the show so appealing is how relatable the main character is, despite being part-human. While the sci-fi setting is expansive, the story stays grounded with its exploration of identity, making Murderbot a standout and sadly underappreciated TV show of 2025.
8) The Chair Company

As a huge comedy fan, I’ve been following Tim Robinson’s career and it’s been amazing to watch him blow up. Seriously, his brand of humor is just so weird and brilliant – some of the funniest sketch work out there lately. He really hit it big with The Chair Company, which he made with Zach Kanin. It was a total surprise hit last year! It’s about this guy, Ron Trosper (played by Robinson), a businessman whose job is on the line because of this totally bizarre conspiracy that starts after he has a really awkward moment at work.
Premiering October 12th and running through November 30th, The Chair Company is shaping up to be one of the funniest shows of 2025. This HBO series is surprisingly brilliant, combining the uniquely strange sketch comedy of its star with a delightfully absurd mystery. Praised for its awkward, funny moments and surreal twists, The Chair Company is made even better by a fantastic comedic performance, offering a truly hilarious and refreshing escape.
7) The Pitt

John Wells and Noah Wyle, who previously worked together on ER, teamed up again for The Pitt, a new medical drama. Streaming on HBO Max, the show centers around Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavtich as he tackles a demanding 15-hour shift in the emergency room of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Uniquely, the entire first season of The Pitt unfolds in real-time, all happening during that one shift.
One of the most talked-about new shows of 2025, The Pitt is earning praise from both critics and medical professionals for its realistic portrayal of emergency room life. The show powerfully depicts the intense and often chaotic environment, and importantly, highlights the emotional toll it takes on doctors and nurses. The Pitt is a compelling and promising series with the potential for long-term success.
6) The Studio

Premiering on Apple TV on March 26th, The Studio is a 2025 TV show that didn’t get much attention, despite being quite good. Seth Rogen plays Matt Remick, the new boss of a movie studio, who struggles to make great films while dealing with the pressures of Hollywood business. The show is a funny and sometimes awkward comedy, and it’s been picked up for another season.
As a movie lover, I have to say The Studio is one of the best shows Apple TV has put out! It’s a really smart and funny look behind the scenes of Hollywood, and it gets what it’s like making movies today. It’s cynical at times, but it’s clear the creators really love film, and they manage to poke fun at the industry without ever becoming mean-spirited. Honestly, it perfectly captures the weirdness of modern cinema, and I think it’s easily one of the best shows of 2025.
5) IT: Welcome to Derry

Although many TV shows are inspired by Stephen King, few are directly adapted from his books. IT: Welcome to Derry expands on short sections from King’s novel IT, creating a full TV series that explores the history of one of his most famous villains. This prequel to the IT movies tells the story of how Pennywise came to terrorize the town of Derry, Maine.
Welcome to Derry delivers exactly what fans want from a Stephen King story: a strong sense of nostalgia, genuine scares, and hidden references for dedicated viewers. Developed by the team behind the recent IT films, the show feels like the start of a connected universe for Stephen King adaptations, and could open the door to a new wave of movies and series based on his work. It’s shaping up to be one of the best horror TV shows of 2025.
4) Alien: Earth

In 2025, the popular Alien franchise expanded with the new TV show, Alien: Earth. This marked a first for the series – it was the first ever television show set in the Alien universe, and also a prequel story existing outside of the main movie timeline. The show’s plot brings the terrifying xenomorphs to Earth and delves deeper into the origins and nature of the cyborgs, androids, and hybrid creatures seen throughout the Alien films.
Alien: Earth wasn’t afraid to shake up the Alien formula and even challenged some of the series’ core principles. It’s a creatively daring show, introducing fresh species and exploring new concepts. Critics have widely praised its unique style, striking visuals, and genuinely frightening moments, solidifying its place as one of the standout TV releases of 2025.
3) Pluribus

Considered a must-watch sci-fi show of 2025, Pluribus quickly became critically acclaimed, even with only a handful of episodes released. From Vince Gilligan, the creator of Breaking Bad, the series centers on a writer who finds herself alone after an alien virus turns most of humanity into a unified, peaceful consciousness. As the virus threatens to assimilate her too, Carol and the 11 other people unaffected must cope with a growing sense of isolation.
Critics have overwhelmingly praised the show, highlighting the strong performances, clever writing, and skillful direction. Pluribus expertly combines an imaginative sci-fi idea with solid storytelling, making it one of the year’s most impressive and intellectually stimulating releases. This quality has earned it a well-deserved spot among the best TV shows of 2025.
2) Severance

By 2025, Severance had become a hugely popular TV show. The series, about the mysterious Lumon Industries and its procedure to separate employees’ work and personal memories, captivated viewers worldwide when season 1 premiered in 2022. The release of Severance season 2 in 2025 further solidified its status as one of the year’s best shows.
The second season of Severance built on the strengths of its first, offering a more in-depth look at the characters’ personal lives while continuing to reveal the secrets of Lumon Industries. This made for a more emotionally resonant and captivating story. After a three-year wait, fans were thrilled with what many consider one of the best shows of 2025, which cleverly expanded the show’s unique sci-fi premise.
1) Adolescence

The British crime drama Adolescence quickly became a global hit after its release in March 2025. The Netflix series follows 13-year-old Jamie Miller, who is arrested in connection with a murder at his school. Featuring Owen Cooper as Jamie and Stephen Graham as his father, Eddie, Adolescence won numerous awards throughout the year.
Beyond its powerful and thought-provoking story about contemporary issues, Adolescence is remarkably well-made. Each episode is filmed in a single, unbroken shot, creating a captivating viewing experience that quickly gained worldwide attention. This innovative approach, combined with stellar performances from the cast, makes it the standout TV show of 2025 – a story that’s sharp, perceptive, and truly connects with viewers globally.
