WARNING! This article contains spoilers from the manga and Jujutsu Kaisen Execution.
I’m completely hooked on Yuji Itadori from Jujutsu Kaisen! He’s the perfect example of what a modern sorcerer should be. Watching his journey is intense – it’s just one incredibly tough fight after another, and you can really see him grow stronger as he tries to protect everyone he cares about. But it’s not just about his amazing strength and speed; it’s the emotional side of his battles that really gets to me. He’s driven by this strong belief that no one deserves to die alone, and he’s constantly haunted by the terrible things Sukuna does when he takes over, especially the devastation in Shibuya. It adds so much weight to every fight!
Whether battling incredibly powerful Cursed Spirits or facing off against other skilled sorcerers, these ten moments showcase Yuji’s development, determination, and unwavering spirit, solidifying his role as the main character.
10) Yuji vs. Sukuna (Inner Domain)

This isn’t a physical battle, but a mental one where Yuji fights for control of himself and who he is. After Sukuna damages Yuji’s body, Yuji finds himself facing the powerful King of Curses inside his own mind, completely vulnerable to this ancient and frightening being.
Even though Sukuna’s victory was quick and clear, the fight was a turning point for Yuji. It showed him just how dangerous Sukuna is and how cunningly Sukuna will wait for the perfect opportunity to take control. This forced Yuji to fully understand the consequences of his decision to host Sukuna. While Sukuna brought him back to life, the experience strengthened Yuji’s resolve to control himself and suppress Sukuna, no matter the cost.
9) Yuji and Nobara vs. The Cursed Spirits (Test Mission)

I remember watching Yuji and Nobara on one of his first real missions as a sorcerer. Their sensei, Gojo, sent them to deal with a couple of weak Cursed Spirits in an abandoned building. It was clear right away their teamwork wasn’t perfect – Nobara was very direct and liked to do things her own way, while Yuji just wanted to jump in and help. They bumped heads a bit, but they quickly started to figure each other out. It was interesting to see how they gradually learned to work together, eventually becoming a really strong team and, eventually, close friends.
This battle is important because it’s where the core team of three really starts to come together. Even though Megumi doesn’t fight, he’s there with Gojo, observing Yuji and Nobara. The mission shows how naturally Yuji wants to protect others, even when facing opponents much stronger than himself, and how well Nobara’s abilities work with his raw power.
8) Yuji vs. Todo (Kyoto Goodwill Event)

Wow, this fight started as just a practice session to see what Yuji could do, but it immediately turned into something insane! Aoi Todo wasn’t holding back at all – he really pushed Yuji to break his limits. Honestly, Todo’s a bit of a wild card, and his crazy training style forced Yuji to think on his feet and fight smarter than he ever had before. It was amazing to watch him adapt!
During the battle, Yuji improved his control over cursed energy and learned to chain together his powerful Divergent Fist attacks. The fight wasn’t really about winning; it was a harsh learning experience that unexpectedly started a close, mentor-like relationship, helping Yuji grow much faster.
7) Yuji and Nobara vs. Eso & Kechizu (Death Painting Arc)

Yuji and Nobara teamed up again, facing a tough and draining fight against the Cursed Womb brothers, Eso and Kechizu. The brothers used a dangerous poison that quickly decayed anything it touched, pushing Yuji and Nobara to work together with perfect timing and accuracy to survive.
This battle happens near the end of the first season and really highlights how much Yuji and Nobara have grown since their initial training exercise. It’s especially clear when Yuji steps in to protect Nobara, even taking a dangerous poisoned attack for her. They ultimately win by combining all of their skills in a powerful team attack, demonstrating how close they’ve become and how much they trust each other – they’re willing to risk everything for one another.
6) Yuji vs. Choso (Shibuya Incident – Bathroom)

Right after the chaotic first part of the Shibuya Incident, a exhausted and injured Yuji found himself facing Choso, one of the incredibly strong Death Paintings. Choso was determined to avenge his fallen brothers, making their fight—which took place in a cramped public bathroom—especially intense and personal.
Yuji struggled against Choso’s powerful Blood Manipulation, particularly a devastating attack called Supernova. Even though he was at a significant disadvantage, Yuji’s determination kept him fighting. While Yuji lost, the real impact of the battle came from a shocking revelation: a forgotten memory that made Choso doubt everything he thought he knew about his connection to Yuji.
5) Yuji vs. Yuta (Post-Shibuya)

Following the intense events in Shibuya, Yuji found himself constantly hunted by Yuta Okkotsu, a powerful sorcerer who had just returned from Africa. Yuta specifically asked to be the one to execute Yuji, which is the central conflict of the new Jujutsu Kaisen Execution movie. The fight was a grueling chase and battle, with Yuji desperately trying to escape and protect himself from one of the strongest jujutsu sorcerers.
The fight clearly demonstrated the difference in strength and skill, as Yuji struggled to hit Yuta, who expertly controlled his physical abilities, cursed energy, and worked well with his partner, Rika. Although Yuji lost, the difficult battle served as an important reminder of how much stronger Special Grade curses and sorcerers are compared to him.
4) Yuji and Nanami vs. Mahito (First Encounter)

This battle marked the first significant team-up between Yuji and his teacher, Kento Nanami, as they fought against the incredibly dangerous cursed spirit, Mahito. Mahito’s frightening ability to warp souls into twisted creatures made the fight not just a physical challenge, but a deeply emotional one for Yuji.
The fight wasn’t just physical; it was a mental struggle for Yuji, who was horrified to see Mahito warp bodies like he had Junpei. Yuji’s temporary ability to resist Mahito’s attacks made him a valuable opponent, and sparked a deep-seated hatred between them that would drive their future battles.
3) Yuji and Todo vs. Hanami (Kyoto Goodwill Event)

The Kyoto Goodwill Event reached its peak when students from Tokyo and Kyoto Jujutsu High battled to exorcise curses. During this competition, Yuji and Todo faced off against the incredibly powerful Special Grade Cursed Spirit, Hanami. Their fight showcased a remarkable team effort, with Todo using his strategic thinking and Boogie Woogie to create openings for Yuji’s powerful attacks, including his recently mastered Black Flash.
The fight showcased a brilliant display of teamwork, with Todo skillfully confusing Hanami, creating openings for Yuji to deliver a series of strong attacks. Their combined efforts were the key to holding their own against the powerful Cursed Spirit, demonstrating excellent coordination and significantly boosting Yuji’s fighting skills.
2) Yuji vs. Mahito (Shibuya Incident – Killing Blow)

Many fans consider Yuji’s battle with Mahito during the Shibuya Incident to be his most emotionally powerful win. After Mahito killed Nanami and severely wounded Nobara, Yuji fought with intense anger and sorrow, driven by his grief and hatred for the Cursed Spirit.
The fight with Mahito pushed Yuji to his absolute limit, both physically and emotionally. He unleashed a relentless barrage of powerful attacks, trapping Mahito and not letting up for a second. It was a brutal and desperate struggle that ended with Yuji decisively defeating the dangerous Cursed Spirit, ultimately overwhelming him.
1) Yuji vs. Sukuna (Shinjuku Showdown Arc – Final Battle)

The epic showdown between Yuji and Sukuna, the King of Curses, in Shinjuku marks the most important battle of the entire series and represents the culmination of Yuji’s development. After the devastating loss of Gojo and having learned from his brother Choso, Yuji has fully grown into a sorcerer. He enters the fight determined to save the world and rescue his friend Megumi, who has been taken over by Sukuna as a new host.
The final battle is the ultimate challenge for Yuji, putting everything he’s learned throughout the series to the test. He’ll use his control over his body – gained from inheriting Sukuna’s techniques – his deep understanding of cursed energy, and his newly developed Domain Expansion. Driven by a strong will, Yuji fights alongside his friends to avenge Sukuna’s victims and rescue Megumi. This epic showdown proves Yuji’s determination and his commitment to protecting the vulnerable from the darkness he once contained.
