10 Greatest Fantasy TV Shows Nobody Remembers and Where They’re Streaming

There’s nothing quite like finding a new fantasy series to watch! With so much content available on streaming services, it can be both easy and hard to discover hidden gems. Lots of great shows unfortunately don’t get the attention they deserve and end up being cancelled, like Pushing Daisies and Extraordinary. While they have dedicated fans, they haven’t reached a wider audience.

As a total film and TV buff, I’m always thrilled to share hidden gems! So, I’ve put together a list of 10 fantastic fantasy shows that seem to have slipped under the radar – the ones everyone’s forgotten. And don’t worry, I’ll also tell you where you can actually watch them. Trust me, I haven’t forgotten these – they’re brilliant!

‘Being Human’ – BritBox (2008-2013)

BBC

The setup – a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost – might seem like the start of a cheesy joke, but it’s the heart of Being Human, a British TV series that blends multiple genres. (It also inspired an American version that aired on Syfy at the same time.) Though the show’s cast changed after a few seasons, it remained consistently good. While the special effects aren’t groundbreaking – it first aired in the late 2000s – the actors deliver truly strong performances, making the show deeply moving. It’s fascinating to watch these supernatural beings demonstrate more compassion and understanding than many people do.

‘Extraordinary’ – Hulu (2023-2024)

Hulu

It’s a shame Extraordinary didn’t get another season to wrap up its big cliffhanger. Though it ended two years ago, this funny and heartwarming Hulu show never really got the attention it deserved – I rarely saw anyone talking about it online. The series centers on Jen, a woman in her twenties trying to find her superpower in a world where everyone has one. Despite her best efforts, she just can’t develop any abilities. Máiréad Tyers is fantastic as Jen, making her both funny and relatable, and the show cleverly questions what it truly means to be special.

‘Penny Dreadful’ – Showtime (2014-2016)

Showtime

As a huge fan of dark, atmospheric stories, I was completely captivated by Showtime’s Penny Dreadful. Seriously, if you love gothic horror, this show is a dream come true! It’s beautifully creepy and Eva Green is absolutely mesmerizing as a woman struggling with inner demons. The visuals are stunning and the story feels like something Shakespeare himself could have written. Yes, there are classic monsters like vampires and werewolves, but what really drew me in was how the characters grappled with their own darkness. It’s a powerful reminder that we’re all complex, capable of both good and evil, and embracing that is what makes the show so compelling.

‘Preacher’ – AMC+ (2016-2019)

Jesse Custer is on a mission to find God, and he means it literally. This troubled preacher is struggling with his faith when he suddenly gains a strange, possibly divine, power. His search takes him on a bizarre journey, but he’s not alone – his ex-girlfriend, Tulip, and a vampire friend named Cassidy are there with him. Preacher is a truly unusual and unpredictable show, and that’s exactly what I love about it. It’s wonderfully weird, has a huge, complex story based on the original comic book by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, and is incredibly funny and sharp-tongued.

‘Pushing Daisies’ – Available for Purchase on Prime Video (2007-2009)

ABC, 2007

Okay, so if you somehow missed Pushing Daisies back in the late 2000s, you need to check it out. It’s seriously one of those shows that deserved so much more attention. The story is just magical – it’s about a pie-maker named Ned, played by Lee Pace, who can bring people back to life with a touch. He uses this ability to solve crimes, and it also lets him reconnect with his childhood crush, Chuck (Anna Friel), who he thought was gone forever. But here’s the catch: he can’t actually touch her without losing her again, which makes their relationship super complicated and adds a ton of tension! Lee Pace and Anna Friel have amazing chemistry, and the whole show is filled with these wonderfully quirky, lovable characters. Honestly, it’s a fantastic blend of fantasy, comedy, and mystery.

‘Galavant’ – Available for Purchase on Prime Video (2015-2016)

ABC

If you enjoy fantasy shows with catchy musical numbers and a healthy dose of humor, check out Galavant. This short-lived ABC series featured the incredible music of Alan Menken (known for Disney classics) and lyrics by Glenn Slater. The show centers on the knight Galavant, who tries to win back his beloved Madalena after she’s taken by King Richard. However, Madalena seems to prefer Richard’s riches and power! What follows is a hilarious musical journey, and the songs are truly the highlight. It’s a shame Galavant didn’t get a longer run to build a bigger audience.
