When I first saw the list of movies coming out this year, 2026, I genuinely thought we were in for something special – maybe even a few future classics. And honestly, it’s already looking good! Some of the films that came out earlier this year have really connected with both audiences and critics, and they’ve done really well at the box office too. But even with all that success, the year is still young. So many of the movies I’m really excited about haven’t even been released yet! With summer just around the corner, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the next few months deliver some truly incredible films.
Between late May and the end of August, several highly anticipated movies are scheduled for release, and many could be among the biggest hits of 2026. These films range from the return of beloved franchises to fresh, exciting new stories. With a strong lineup across various genres, the summer of 2026 is shaping up to be a fantastic time for big-budget moviegoers.
10) Scary Movie

Get ready for the return of Scary Movie this summer with the sixth film in the series! Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and other fan favorites are back to deliver the over-the-top horror comedy the franchise is known for. Scary Movie 6 hits theaters on June 5th, marking a welcome return after a long break. While fans are eager, the previous films haven’t been as strong, so expectations are tempered – hopefully this installment can recapture the magic of the earlier Scary Movie films.
9) Minions & Monsters

While the Minions films may not be for everyone, a new movie is always a big hit with kids and their families. The latest installment, Minions & Monsters, is a prequel to the Despicable Me series, taking the mischievous yellow creatures back to the 1920s where they encounter classic Hollywood monsters. Set to release in theaters on July 1st, it could be one of the summer’s most anticipated family films.
8) Evil Dead Burn

The Evil Dead series has a reputation for its sequels being even better than the first film, so the upcoming 2026 release is generating a lot of excitement. Following the success of the 2013 Evil Dead reboot and 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, Evil Dead Burn will continue the franchise’s scary legacy, with original creator Sam Raimi producing. Evil Dead is a consistently fun and underrated horror series, making the July 24th release of Evil Dead Burn a date to look forward to.
7) Coyote vs. Acme

After Warner Bros. unexpectedly cancelled Coyote vs. Acme in 2023 for financial reasons, fans rallied to save the film. Now, it’s been picked up by a new distributor and will finally be released on August 28th. The movie, which blends live-action with classic Looney Tunes animation, tells the story of Wile E. Coyote taking legal action against the Acme Corporation for consistently selling him defective products. Starring Will Forte and John Cena, Coyote vs. Acme is a much-anticipated 2026 release that many thought would never happen.
6) Toy Story 5

For over thirty years, the Toy Story movies have remained incredibly popular with viewers of all ages. The newest film is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19th and will feature Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang facing a new challenge from a technological source. Toy Story 5 will also introduce fresh faces alongside beloved characters, making it a likely blockbuster this summer.
5) Supergirl

The DC Universe (DCU) had a great launch in 2025 with the movie Superman, and it’s continuing to build momentum this summer. Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock as Superman’s cousin and another survivor of Krypton, will hit theaters on June 26th. The story follows her attempt to save her dog, Krypto. With many DC characters already confirmed, Supergirl is expected to significantly expand the DCU, and early trailers suggest it could be one of the biggest superhero movies of 2026.
4) Masters of the Universe

The new live-action Masters of the Universe movie might be surprisingly appealing, even to those unfamiliar with the original. The trailer will definitely spark nostalgia for longtime fans of He-Man, but the film also looks visually impressive and promises a compelling story. With a release date of June 5th, it could easily become one of the summer’s biggest hits.
3) Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu

Even with a few mistakes along the way, Star Wars is still one of the most popular franchises in pop culture. The story continues on the big screen May 22 with a new movie featuring Din Djarin and Grogu. This film, titled Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, is essentially the fourth season of the hit TV show The Mandalorian, bringing these beloved characters back for another cinematic adventure.
2) Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Based on what we’ve seen, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is shaping up to be a major movie event in 2026. It will continue Spider-Man’s story within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, picking up after Spider-Man: No Way Home and leading into the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. The film will also include appearances by popular characters like Hulk and Punisher, making its July 31st release date a must-see for many fans – including us!
1) The Odyssey

Everyone is incredibly excited for The Odyssey, which is set to be the biggest movie of the summer in 2026. Directed by Christopher Nolan and based on the famous Greek story, the film boasts an amazing cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Robert Pattinson, along with many other top actors. With Nolan’s proven track record, the fantastic cast, and the enduring appeal of the original story, The Odyssey is almost guaranteed to be a huge hit when it comes out on July 17th.
