The X-Men are a hugely popular Marvel superhero team, and have been for many years. They’ve consistently been bestsellers in the comic book world, even holding the record for the highest-selling single issue of all time. A key to their success is the large and ever-changing cast of characters – both heroes and villains. The X-Men battle a wide range of enemies, from those driven by prejudice to truly world-threatening monsters. Over the years, many of these villains have become powerful enough to pose a serious challenge to even the strongest members of the team.
We’re counting down the ten strongest X-Men villains based purely on physical strength – meaning how much they can lift with their muscles alone. We’re not including powers like telekinesis or reality warping, because those aren’t about raw strength. This list is for the villains with the biggest, most powerful physiques. Let’s get started!
10) Sebastian Shaw

Shaw’s power level is unique and fluctuates greatly. Normally, he’s about as strong as an average human, but his ability to absorb energy and turn it into physical strength makes him incredibly dangerous. The more damage he takes, the more powerful he becomes, potentially allowing him to fight characters like Thor and Wonder Man. However, he can only absorb so much energy at a time, as demonstrated when Storm overwhelmed him in Uncanny X-Men #152.
He’s definitely a powerful fighter, but his performance isn’t always consistent, and he often needs help from external factors. Because of this, I ranked him tenth. While he has the potential to be much higher – even as high as eighth – his inconsistency is a major drawback. His best is very good, but when he’s not at his best, he struggles more than the others, so tenth felt like a fair compromise.
9) Bastion

Bastion is a unique being created by combining a human with a Sentinel, resulting in a powerful cybernetic body. He’s significantly stronger than an average person, likely at least as strong as a typical Sentinel. According to the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z #1, Bastion’s strength is rated a four, putting him at a similar level to heroes like Spider-Man and Wolverine. While impressively strong, he isn’t among the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe.
8) Blob

Blob is one of the X-Men’s oldest enemies and has been a recurring threat ever since. While he’s famous for being incredibly durable, people often forget just how strong he is. He’s managed to seriously hurt powerful heroes like Wonder Man, the Hulk, and Colossus, even if he couldn’t defeat them. His peak strength, boosted by Onslaught, reached around seventy-five tons. Although he isn’t among the absolutely strongest beings, Blob’s power is still very impressive.
7) Nimrod

Nimrod is an incredibly powerful robot from the distant future. It travels through time with the single goal of capturing all mutants, and its immense strength is a key part of how it tries to eliminate them. What makes Nimrod especially dangerous is its ability to quickly adapt and overcome any mutant power it faces. It’s unbelievably strong – capable of lifting over a hundred tons – and has even gone toe-to-toe with incredibly powerful beings like Juggernaut, managing to withstand and deliver blows.
6) Apocalypse

Apocalypse is the original mutant, and he’s been around for centuries. He believes only the strongest should survive, so he’s determined to eliminate anyone he considers weak. With incredible powers and enhancements, he sees himself as the natural leader of the survivors. He’s proven his strength repeatedly, easily defeating Colossus and even holding back the powerful Hulk. In his long life, he’s fought against gods like Thor, once hitting him so hard with a headbutt that the shockwaves traveled for hundreds of miles. Apocalypse is one of the X-Men’s most dangerous enemies, but even he isn’t invincible.
5) Juggernaut

Once the Juggernaut starts moving, there’s almost nothing that can slow him down, and surprisingly, he doesn’t even need a running start to deliver a powerful hit. Powered by the demon Cyttorak, he possesses incredible strength and can withstand almost any attack. He can lift well over 100 tons and consistently defeats even the most dangerous villains in the Marvel Universe. He’s famously matched the strength of the Green Scar Hulk – one of the Hulk’s most powerful forms – and has defeated heroes like Thor and even restrained the incredibly powerful Captain Universe. He’s even punched his way through different dimensions! While the Juggernaut seems unstoppable, there are still some villains who can overcome his power.
4) Onslaught

Onslaught was a terrifying being created from the combined negativity of Magneto and the hidden emotions of Professor X. He possessed all of their powers – incredibly strong telepathy and control over magnetism – and even more. He could also absorb the abilities of other mutants, making him immensely powerful and physically strong, easily lifting over a hundred tons. He once defeated the Juggernaut with a single punch, sending him flying across state lines. The only being who could potentially overpower Onslaught was the Hulk, but without Bruce Banner’s control, his rage reached unprecedented and devastating levels.
3) Legion

Legion is one of the X-Men’s biggest threats, and it’s not just because he’s powerful. His unique ability lets him instantly develop new mutations, adapting to any situation. This means he can gain incredible strength, something he’s proven repeatedly. However, each new power also creates a new personality. One of his most common strong forms is a woman named Sally, who has demonstrated destructive force comparable to the Hulk, making him an exceptionally dangerous opponent.
2) Bete Noir

Bete Noir is a tricky one to rank because we never really saw its full potential. However, if the legends are true, it’s incredibly powerful and deserves to be here. People said it was an ancient, immensely strong force, comparable to the Phoenix Force, but instead of focusing on life, it only wanted to destroy. It was imprisoned inside Earth’s core, and if it had broken free, its power would have been enough to tear the planet apart as it built a physical form. It would have destroyed the Earth and then moved on to other worlds, continuing its path of destruction. While it didn’t have a body at first, once it created one, it would have been just as physically strong as the Phoenix Force is with its telekinetic abilities.
1) First Fallen

Similar to Bete Noir, the First Fallen is a very old enemy of the Phoenix Force. Some believe it, and other powerful evil forces, are all parts of the same villain – the Shadow King. Whatever the case, the First Fallen is a dangerous energy source that could give anyone incredible power. While it mainly allowed hosts to warp reality, it also granted immense physical strength, putting them on the same level as cosmic beings like the Watcher and even Galactus. The First Fallen is unbelievably powerful, and those it possessed have been the X-Men’s physically strongest opponents.
