After a decade since it finished, a beloved Isekai anime is getting a second season! This is a fantastic time for fans of the genre, with many new Isekai series appearing and popular shows continuing with multiple seasons. It’s exciting to see even long-awaited sequels like this one finally in production.
The anime series GATE stands out in the Isekai genre for its unique approach. It began with a war sparked by a fantasy world invading our own, and followed the Japanese military’s efforts to adapt and fight back. After a decade since the first season concluded, GATE is returning with a second season, GATE 2: Tides of Conflict, and promises a significantly different storyline. You can get a first look at the new season below.
What to Know for GATE Season 2

To mark the 10th anniversary of the original series, a new season of GATE, titled GATE 2: Tides of Conflict, is in development. However, it will take a different direction than many fans expect. While currently planned for release in 2027, it’s unknown if the season will be available for streaming outside of its original release region. This new installment will feature a fresh story and characters, drawing from the official sequel released in the original light novels.
Kasagi Labo, Oshi, and GENCO are teaming up to create GATE 2: Tides of Conflict, with Toru Takahashi directing and Studio M2 handling the animation. Tatsuhiko Urahata will write the scripts, Shigeru Fujita will design the characters, and Yoshiaki Fujisawa will compose the music. Details about the remaining staff and voice actors haven’t been announced yet, but more information will be revealed as the release date next year approaches.
What’s Different With GATE Season 2?

GATE 2: Tides of Conflict continues the story from the popular anime, picking up where the first season left off ten years ago. This new installment follows Japan’s naval forces as they respond to the kidnapping of an American journalist. With many new characters, it’s designed to be accessible even if you haven’t seen the original series.
The first season of GATE introduced a fantastical world that suddenly appeared in modern Japan through a mysterious gate, linking the two. The Japanese military quickly responded to protect its people and establish contact with this new world. You can currently watch all 20+ episodes on Hulu and Hulu via Disney+.
