Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) affectionately nicknamed Tony Stark and Bruce Banner the “Science Bros,” but sadly, they haven’t teamed up since Tony Stark’s death in Avengers: Endgame. Fortunately, the MCU seems to be setting up a new pair of brilliant scientists who could become the perfect replacement, and might even be more intelligent than the original duo.
The new movie, Avengers: Doomsday, will reunite familiar faces from past Avengers films. You can expect to see Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk and Chris Hemsworth as Thor again, but it will also surprisingly bring back Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. The film will also introduce some new heroes to the team-up, including characters from the Fantastic Four and the X-Men (previously from FOX).
Shuri & Reed Richards Could Be The New Science Bros

The latest preview for Avengers: Doomsday reveals a meeting between Ben Grimm and the people of Wakanda, including Shuri and M’Baku. This confirms that the Fantastic Four will team up with Wakandans in the movie. Many viewers believe this scene shows the first encounter between characters from different universes and the residents of our main Marvel universe (Earth-616).
The upcoming meeting suggests Reed Richards and Shuri will definitely cross paths in Doomsday, despite Richards not appearing in the trailer. This pairing could be incredibly impactful, as both are considered among the most intelligent people in their worlds. Reed Richards is frequently ranked as the smartest character in Marvel Comics, and Shuri’s intelligence within the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been unparalleled so far.
Reed Richards and Shuri would make a fantastic scientific partnership to tackle threats like incursions or other dangers across the multiverse. While their approaches differ greatly from heroes like Hulk or Iron Man, their teamwork would be similar to the fun and effective dynamic between the ‘Science Bros’ – Bruce Banner and Tony Stark – in the first Avengers film.
It’s hoped that Shuri and Reed will have the same great dynamic as Banner and Stark did. But even if that doesn’t happen, fans who loved the ‘Science Bros’ still have reason to be excited. With Robert Downey Jr. coming back in Doomsday and Hulk playing a major role, there’s a chance they could team up and create a similar partnership.
Even if Robert Downey Jr. doesn’t play Iron Man in this new film, teaming up Doctor Doom and the Hulk would visually echo the popular ‘Science Bros’ dynamic from past Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. This is one way Avengers: Doomsday can honor the history of The Avengers and successfully blend the MCU’s current storylines with elements from before Endgame.
