Marvel Studios’ *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* has earned more money worldwide than another movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it’s unlikely to surpass any others. Released on July 25, 2025, the film introduces a fresh take on Marvel’s Fantastic Four, showing them fight the powerful Galactus and his messenger, the Silver Surfer. Directed by Matt Shakman as part of the Multiverse Saga, *First Steps* quickly became the most successful Fantastic Four movie to date – though that wasn’t a difficult achievement – and its box office numbers confirm its popularity.
As of September 22, 2025, *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* has earned $521 million worldwide, according to data from *The Numbers*. This makes it a success, as it has now outperformed the 2015 film *Ant-Man* ($519 million) despite nearing the end of its time in theaters. With the movie now available to rent or buy digitally, its theatrical run is almost over. While *First Steps* has done well, it’s unlikely to reach the $585 million earned by 2008’s *Iron Man* – that goal is probably out of reach.
What The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Box Office Total Means For the New MCU Team

While $521 million might not be a huge success for Marvel Studios, *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* is now the highest-grossing *Fantastic Four* movie ever – a great sign for the team! It’s surpassed the box office totals of films like *The Incredible Hulk*, *Thor*, *Captain America: The First Avenger*, *Ant-Man*, *Black Widow*, *Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings*, *Eternals*, *Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania*, *The Marvels*, *Captain America: Brave New World*, and *Thunderbolts*. Plus, the movie’s good reviews and high ratings suggest a promising future for the team.
While Marvel hasn’t officially announced it, a second *Fantastic Four* movie is almost certainly happening and is reportedly being developed. Director Matt Shakman is expected to return for this project, which will likely be part of the next big storyline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after *Avengers: Secret Wars*. Before that, the Fantastic Four will appear in the upcoming *Avengers: Doomsday* and *Secret Wars* films directed by the Russo brothers. These movies are expected to introduce the version of the Fantastic Four from another universe (Earth 828) into the main MCU timeline, allowing their story to continue.
Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach have wonderfully brought Marvel’s Fantastic Four to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While promoting their new film, they all shared how thrilled they are to play Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (The Thing) for many years to come. It’s fantastic to have the Fantastic Four back, and it will be interesting to see what adventures await them.
