For the next 72 hours, you can download a strategy RPG from 2021 for free on Steam, saving you $9.99. This offer is available on both PC and the Steam Deck. While Valve hasn’t officially tested the game on the Steam Deck and lists compatibility as ‘Unknown,’ it might still work with some adjustments by the user. This simply means Valve doesn’t have information on whether it runs properly on the handheld console.
This week, Steam is giving away Magellania, a sci-fi tactical RPG that’s been out for five years. It’s a lesser-known game, which is likely why it’s free to download. Early players seem to really like it – it currently has a 100% positive rating based on 33 reviews. While not many people have tried it yet, those who have are enjoying the experience.
A Sci-Fi Tactical RPG
So, I’ve been checking out this new free game on Steam, and it’s advertised as a ‘hardcore’ tactical RPG. But honestly, ‘hardcore’ doesn’t mean what you think! A lot of players are saying it actually simplifies a lot of the usual complicated stuff, which is a good thing! Everyone seems to really like how it focuses on stats in battles, building your perfect team, and the game just looks great overall. It’s a surprisingly easy game to pick up, even though it’s a strategy RPG.
This is a smaller update, so we don’t have Metacritic scores to help understand what users think. There’s also limited information available about the game itself – for instance, we don’t know the exact length of the game. However, most players report spending between 10 and 25 hours playing it.
Good Timing for Fans of the Genre
Tactical RPGs aren’t super common, so when a free one appears, it’s big news for fans. Especially at the start of 2026, which hasn’t seen many new releases in this genre so far, this giveaway is a welcome treat for anyone looking for a new strategy game.
If you’re not interested in the new free game on Steam, don’t worry – there’s another one! This new horror game is also free and has a perfect score from users.
