A PlayStation 5 game originally planned for 2025 has been pushed back to 2026. This means it will now release alongside other anticipated PS5 exclusives like Marvel’s Wolverine, Saros, and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. While there’s no specific date yet, the game is currently slated to come out sometime in 2026.
If you were hoping to play Showa American Story this year, or were holding out for its planned 2025 release, unfortunately, it’s been delayed. The developers, Nekcom Games, and publisher 4Divinity have announced the game will now launch in 2026 to allow for further polish and ensure a high-quality experience.
Delay Statement
According to an official announcement, the release of Showa American Story has been delayed. Originally planned for 2025, it will now launch in 2026. This decision was made to guarantee the game is as polished and high-quality as possible as development nears completion.
Following the announcement of Showa American Story, we’ve been incredibly encouraged by the positive response from players worldwide. We deeply regret the delay and thank you for your patience, understanding, and ongoing support. We know this isn’t the update you wanted to hear, and we’re truly sorry to make you wait longer. This extra development time will allow us to polish Showa American Story and deliver a game that meets our quality standards. The entire team at Nekcom is working hard to ensure Showa American Story launches as its best possible version.
The game Showa American Story was originally revealed in 2022 for both PlayStation 5 and PC, but it’s actually been in development since 2016. It’s strange that it’s now a PS5 exclusive, especially since Sony doesn’t appear to be involved with the project, and that hasn’t changed.
The game is an action RPG set in a ruined version of America, heavily influenced by Japan, called “Showa America.” You play as a teenage girl brought back to life who’s trying to figure out what happened to her and the world. She has to survive a dangerous land filled with zombies, monsters, and people changed by the harsh conditions.
We’d love to hear your thoughts! Please leave a comment below, or join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum. Are you planning to play this PlayStation 5 exclusive when it comes out next year?
