A standout dinosaur movie from recent years is now available to stream, and it’s a must-see for fans of the genre. While the 2025 release of Jurassic World Rebirth and the newest Jurassic World film – featuring stars like Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey – both performed well and received improved reviews, neither was the best dinosaur movie of the year. That title actually went to a smaller, independently produced film from Australia.
Good news for dinosaur and war movie fans! According to MovieWeb, the cult classic Primitive War will be available to stream on Hulu starting April 4th. This unique film blends dinosaur horror with the action of the Vietnam War, taking place in the jungles of 1968.
Primitive War Delivers Dinosaur Action Like No Other Movie
Despite its lower budget of $180 million, Jurassic World Rebirth was a financial success, earning $869.1 million globally. In contrast, Primitive War, which cost $7 million to make, only brought in $1.2 million at the box office. Interestingly, Primitive War received a better rating from critics (63%) than Jurassic World Rebirth (50%). Even more notably, audiences loved Primitive War, giving it an 86% score, suggesting it resonated strongly with its target viewers.
Okay, so the movie starts off really cool – Jeremy Piven, you know, from Entourage, plays this Colonel, Amadeus Jericho. He sends this unit, called the Vultures, into Vietnam to find a lost Green Berets team. But things get wild fast! They don’t find soldiers, they find dinosaurs! It’s basically a fight for survival against these prehistoric creatures, which are way scarier than anything the Viet Cong could throw at them. And then it gets even crazier – the plot expands to this Cold War thing where both the US and the Soviet Union are hunting for some kind of super-collider. It turns out the dinosaurs might not even be the biggest threat in this whole mess!
The film’s ending suggests the dinosaurs might break free due to the collider’s destruction, hinting at a potential sequel. Now that Primitive War is available on Hulu, it’s a chance for viewers to demonstrate their interest and potentially boost the franchise after a disappointing theatrical run. A streaming release on Hulu could be ideal for Primitive War 2, and its performance there will likely determine if a sequel gets made. There’s talk that the next film will explore the Vietnam War more deeply, with dinosaurs playing a smaller role, which could expand the scope of this unique sci-fi series.
