2026’s Best Game Confirmed Day One Steam Deck Verified

The developer of what’s currently considered the best game of 2026 has announced it will be immediately compatible with the Steam Deck when it launches next week. According to Metacritic, the top-rated games released so far this year include Pokémon Pokopia, Resident Evil Requiem, Mewgenics, and Saros, along with a few smaller indie titles. However, the game currently receiving the highest praise hasn’t officially launched yet. Early reviews are in, and they’re overwhelmingly positive, giving it a score of 92 on Metacritic – making it the first game of 2026 to achieve a score above 90.

When Playground Games and Xbox launch Forza Horizon 6 on PC and Xbox Series X on May 17th, it will be officially verified to work well on the Steam Deck. This means Valve has thoroughly tested the game and confirms it plays smoothly with the Deck’s screen and controls. However, recently some Steam Deck users have noticed the “Verified” badge is sometimes given to games that don’t fully work as expected, or without significant improvements to compatibility. Despite this, Xbox has consistently supported the Steam Deck, so it’s likely Forza Horizon 6 will be a genuinely well-functioning game on the platform.

The Best Game of 2026 So Far

As we approach the middle of 2026, Forza Horizon 6 being the highest-rated game so far is impressive. Looking ahead, there aren’t many major upcoming games likely to score higher, though GTA 6 could definitely take the lead if it’s released on schedule. Beyond that, few titles seem poised to achieve a score above 92. This means Forza Horizon 6 has a strong chance of being a contender for Game of the Year when the awards are given out in December.

If you want to play the game as soon as it’s released on Steam Deck, you have two options: you can buy it for $70, or you can subscribe to PC Game Pass, where it will be available as part of the subscription because it’s published by Xbox Game Studios.
