2K Games is offering a free video game, normally priced at $60, through Amazon Prime Gaming. To claim it, you’ll need both an Amazon Prime subscription and a GOG account. The game is available on multiple consoles, but this free offer is only for the PC version and is valid until January 7, 2026. You’ll receive a PC game code through GOG.
PC gamers will soon be able to get their hands on *XCOM 2*, a well-regarded 2016 strategy game from Firaxis and 2K Games. As a sequel to the critically acclaimed *XCOM: Enemy Unknown* (released in 2012), *XCOM 2* continues the tradition of turn-based tactical combat.
About the Game
Okay, so XCOM 2 picks up 20 years after the first game, and things are *bad*. Basically, all the world leaders gave up to the aliens after XCOM was crushed. You’re in charge of rebuilding XCOM from the ground up, leading the resistance and trying to take the planet back. That’s the setup. As for how it plays, it’s a lot like the original: you’ve got turn-based fights on missions, but also a whole strategy layer where you’re managing your base, researching tech, and keeping everything running. It’s a really cool mix!
When XCOM 2 was released, it received an 88 on Metacritic, making it one of the best-rated games of 2016. It was also nominated for Best Strategy Game at The Game Awards that same year.
If you’re planning to get XCOM 2 for free through Prime Gaming and GOG, be prepared to spend a good amount of time with it – around 30 to 50 hours, depending on how much extra content you explore. The good news is, once you claim it, it’s yours to keep forever, even if you cancel your Amazon Prime subscription. You might even already have it, as it was previously offered for free on the Epic Games Store back in 2022.
While playing *XCOM: Enemy Unknown* can make *XCOM 2* even better, the second game is perfectly enjoyable on its own. It’s a shame, though, that the highly-rated *War of the Chosen* expansion isn’t part of this package.
