It’s often cozy to revisit a book series you loved, and many people enjoy rereading them. But it’s even more thrilling when a series that’s been on hold for a while continues with new installments. Luckily, 2026 will bring returns of several favorite series, giving readers a chance to reconnect with characters and stories they’ve missed.
As a huge romantasy fan, I’m so excited to see one of the biggest series really making a comeback with tons of new stuff! And it’s not just that – we’re finally getting a sequel to a fantasy book I’ve been waiting for! But the biggest surprise? A return in 2026 that absolutely no one predicted, and honestly, it’s the most creative way I’ve seen a series get revived.
3) A Court of Thorns & Roses by Sarah J. Maas

It’s been five years since Sarah J. Maas released the last book in the Court of Thorns & Roses series (A Court of Silver Flames came out in 2021). Now, she’s planning a big return to the ACOTAR world with a new story told over three books. The first two will be released within the next year, with the first arriving on October 27th. The second book will follow on January 12th, continuing the story—though it won’t be a traditional trilogy. After a long wait for ACOTAR 6, this is set to be a major release for fans of romantasy. Hopefully, we’ll also hear about the release date for the final book around then. While details about the plot are still limited, it promises a significant return to the world of Prythian.
2) Villains by V.E. Schwab

Fans of V.E. Schwab’s Villains series are accustomed to waiting between books – especially since Vicious came out in 2013 and Vengeful in 2018. For a while, many didn’t expect any more installments. However, Schwab is releasing one final book in 2026, eight years after the last one. Victorious, the concluding novel in the fantasy series, will be published on October 6th. While Vengeful left readers wondering what would happen next, the synopsis for Victorious confirms the intense rivalry between Victor and Eli isn’t over. Dedicated fans of Schwab’s work will undoubtedly be eager to read it.
1) Divergent by Veronica Roth

After finishing her popular Divergent series with Allegiant and Four, Veronica Roth moved on to other fantasy and dystopian novels. Because of how Allegiant ended, most fans didn’t think she’d ever revisit that world. However, she recently announced she’s returning with a two-part continuation of the series that will essentially retell the original story. The first book, The Sixth Faction, comes out on October 6th. It’s set in a new timeline where Tris doesn’t join Dauntless, but instead becomes factionless, promising a very different experience from the books that were so popular in the 2010s. It’s a fascinating idea, and many readers are hoping it will give Tris and Four the happier ending they deserve.
