As 2025 comes to a close, it’s a great time to reflect on the year for anime. It’s been a truly remarkable one, possibly the best yet! The year started strong with the huge popularity of Solo Leveling, and its second season continued to break records. Meanwhile, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle became the highest-grossing anime and Japanese film ever made.
Many anime series have highlighted a strong year for the medium, including popular fall releases like My Hero Academia. However, not every show lived up to expectations, and three in particular were especially disappointing, each failing in its own way.
3) Please Put Them On, Takemine-San

Before anime became popular, many people wrongly believed it was only filled with inappropriate content and lacked meaningful stories. Watching a series like Please Put Them On, Takemine-san might not change their minds. The story centers around Koushi, a high school student who unexpectedly sees his student council president, Takemine, undress in front of him.
The student council president’s unusual ability to fix her errors brings her together with Koushi and Takemine. However, the anime quickly reveals itself to be filled with pointless and exploitative content, damaging the reputation of the industry and making it one of the year’s biggest letdowns. It’s easy to predict the show’s focus based on the title, and unfortunately, those expectations are met with frustrating predictability.
2) The Beginning After the End

Everyone was really excited for the anime adaptation of The Beginning After the End, especially fans of the original novels. Some thought it had the potential to be as popular as Solo Leveling, but unfortunately, the animation wasn’t very good and many viewers were disappointed.
Fans were so disappointed with the anime adaptation of The Beginning After the End that they started petitions for it to be redone even while new episodes were still being released. Like Solo Leveling, it had a dedicated following from the original source material, but unfortunately, the anime didn’t live up to expectations.
1) One-Punch Man Season 3

The letdown many fans feel about One-Punch Man Season 3 is similar to the problems with Season 2, but surprisingly, it’s even more disappointing. Considering J.C. Staff had six years to work on it, people were hoping for a much better adaptation.
After the director’s initial statements, many viewers hoped this season would be better than the last. Unfortunately, it proved far worse, becoming the most disappointing anime of the year. The low quality was evident in the ratings: one episode of One-Punch Man Season 3 received the lowest score ever recorded on IMDb, and the season as a whole ranked among the worst.
