Spider-Man is consistently one of Marvel’s most beloved heroes, but some of his comic book enemies are simply too disturbing for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While we’ve seen Spider-Man face iconic villains like the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and Venom in live-action films – starting with Sony and continuing with the MCU partnership – there are many others he could battle on screen. Though characters like Kraven, Tombstone, Shocker, and Rhino are possibilities, certain villains are so intensely dark that they’d likely shock most moviegoers if they appeared in a Spider-Man film.
Here are three Spider-Man villains—ranging from a truly demonic foe to some of the most unsettling Spidey has ever battled—who are simply too intense for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
3) Kindred

Kindred is a relatively recent villain introduced in Spider-Man comics, and he proved to be a compelling antagonist throughout the story. For a long time, his true identity was a closely guarded secret, and even when clues seemed to reveal the answer, they turned out to be misleading. The main thing readers knew was that Kindred had come back from Hell seeking revenge on both Spider-Man and Norman Osborn.
The reveal of Kindred’s true identity, though initially surprising, ultimately felt underwhelming. Despite this, the journey to that reveal – featuring Sin-Eater terrorizing Spider-Man’s enemies and a surprising redemption arc for Norman Osborn – was engaging. However, the character of Kindred itself presents problems for a potential adaptation into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A villain originating literally from Hell feels tonally inconsistent with the MCU’s established style, and the character’s complex backstory is simply too extensive to effectively integrate into a film. Ultimately, Kindred isn’t a viable option for the MCU.
2) Freak

The villain Freak is considered too disturbing for the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a unique reason. He’s simply too horrifying and crosses too many lines for Spider-Man’s generally wholesome and family-oriented films. The character’s origin involves a drug addict breaking into a lab and mistakenly injecting animal stem cells, believing they are drugs. Even the concept of a drug user injecting substances is enough to make him unsuitable for the MCU.
The situation quickly escalates. The animal stem cells ravage the addict’s body, leaving him a grotesque, skinless creature. He dies, but shockingly returns to life, even more powerful and mutated. Each time he dies, he comes back stronger, much like the character Doomsday from DC Comics. Despite this transformation, his only motivation remains finding and using more drugs. This character isn’t suited for a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie; he’s a monster better suited for a disturbing, body-horror film, and simply wouldn’t fit within the MCU’s established tone.
1) The Thousand

The Thousand is a lesser-known, but truly frightening Spider-Man villain unlikely to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Originally named Carl King, he first appeared in Spider-Man’s Tangled Web. As a school bully, he saw the radioactive spider bite Peter Parker and gain superpowers. Driven by envy, Carl ate the spider himself, resulting in a terrifying transformation – while the spider gave Peter powers and turned him into Spider-Man, the effect on Carl was far more gruesome.
When Carl consumed a spider, his body horrifically disintegrated and reformed into a swarm of a thousand spiders. This allowed him to devour people internally and then take on their appearance, becoming more powerful with each victim – starting with his loved ones and extending to strangers. He then obsessively hunted Peter Parker for years, biding his time until the perfect moment to strike. A villain this unsettling would never be suitable for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
